Baltimore County Public Library (BCPL) maintains 16 branches, 3 mobile libraries and the County Detention Center. Materials Provided in BCPL branches include: children's, young adult and adult fiction and nonfiction print titles, large type, reference, Spanish and Russian language collections, CD's, books on tape, videos, DVD's and online databases. BCPL also maintains a High Tech Graphic Production Department which is compiled of an Art section and a Print section. Art provides design and layout services and produces signage for the system. The Print section provides printing and finishing services for BCPL's Calendar of Events, booklists, flyers, newsletters and supply materials.
Our digital library is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Download or stream using a computer, tablet, smartphone or smart TV. Learn how to browse, check out and access e-books, audiobooks, e-magazines and streaming movies. Note: If this is your first time logging in to the Baltimore Banner, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post or PressReader, you will be asked to create an account. You can also read through these apps during your access time by using the same login on all devices. The Kanopy Films collection includes documentaries, indie and foreign films, Great Courses educational videos, must-see classics and blockbuster movies.
Watch up to 15 films per month, per library card. hoopla Digital contains movies, TV shows, music and comics. Users get 10 checkouts per month. Baltimore County residents can register for a free Baltimore County Public Library card either in person to get a standard library card, or online to get an e-card. An e-card number allows you access to electronic databases and resources, such as ebooks from OverDrive and CloudLibrary, and streaming videos from Hoopla. You can also place holds on physical library materials (books, DVDs) etc.
When you go to pick up your holds, you would need to show ID and get a standard library card issued to you before you can borrow the held items. To get an e-card, register online. To get a standard card with full library privileges, visit the Service Desk at any branch and bring a current photo ID. A printable registration form (PDF) is also available. A current photo ID is all that is required to get a permanent library card. Accepted forms of ID include:
Unaccepted IDs include shopping club cards (e.g., Costco, Sam’s Club) and check-cashing cards.
