CALIFORNIA – President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social app, November 9, that most Americans will receive a “tariff dividend” of at least $2,000 per person, funded from federal import-tariff revenues.
Kentucky’s junior U.S. Senator Rand Paul, R-Bowling Green, has introduced the Health Marketplace and Savings Accounts for All Act, to make all Americans eligible for Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). CALIFORNIA – The U.S. Department of Justice announced November 26 that a California woman admitted in federal court to hiding her father-in-law’s overseas death to illegally collect more than $175,000 in retirement benefits. Most of the food ended up with that one family, while struggling families behind them only received half bags or leftovers. Watching the volunteers debate whether to intervene made the whole scene feel even heavier. It made me realize the loophole isn’t always the system—it’s often the way people choose to exploit it. Truth today has become whatever narrative a person wishes to believe...its part of a hedonistic culture that has is rooted in wealthy western nations, but also has spread to less wealthy people. Education based on historical facts and not wish fulfillment is the only way to counter un-truth or false narratives. The fight for truth in journalism is more important than ever as misinformation spreads. Initiatives like "Choose Truth" are vital to restoring public trust.💯 THE GROUNDTRUTH PROJECT is an award-winning, independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit news organization dedicated to supporting the next generation of journalists in the U.S.
and around the world. Our mission is to serve under-covered communities by supporting the next generation of journalists to do on-the-ground reporting and to advance sustainability, innovation and equity in journalism worldwide. In 2017, The GroundTruth Project launched Report for America, a national service program that places talented emerging journalists in local newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and communities. And in 2021, we launched Report for the World. At the core of what we do is the idea of “ground truth,” which, put simply, means being on the ground to tell the story. The origin of the term comes from NASA, and refers to part of the calibration process used in satellite imagery.
When NASA measures something with a satellite, an employee on the ground takes the same measurement. That human measurement is known as “ground truth.” Your donation to The GroundTruth Project is an investment in the future of journalism, and in the journalists who tell the essential stories of our time. In a new plot twist for GroundTruth, we see the narrative arc come full circle in its 13-year saga as the team continues its Herculean effort to defend against mounting threats to journalism and... Sincere apologies for the breathless Hollywood pitch line, but this is truly a powerful moment for the whole, epic GroundTruth cast and crew. Meanwhile, Report for America and Report for the World will go full speed ahead on their own journey and focus more on their individual brands. This week, after much reflection, I announced that I’d be leaving The GroundTruth Project, the non-profit organization that I founded in 2012 and which was officially recognized by the IRS as a 501c3 tax-deductible... It is the culmination of a nearly three year process of succession planning and handing off to a new leadership team. I will be taking GroundTruth forward to iterate again as a new startup with a new mission and a new business model, which, ironically, circles back to the original for-profit model and places me... I’ll be doing that right here through my GroundTruth newsletter on Substack, and we hope you will subscribe and join me on the journey going forward.
