Itä-Suomen yliopisto on Suomen monialaisin tiedeyliopisto, joka kouluttaa tulevaisuuden tekijöitä yhteiskunnan tarpeisiin. Tarjoamme tutkinto-opetusta lähes sadassa pääaineessa. The University of Eastern Finland (Finnish: Itä-Suomen yliopisto) is a university in Finland, which was founded in 2010 and has campuses in Joensuu and Kuopio. The Finnish Parliament passed the Universities Act on June 16, 2009,[2] which, among other things, extended the autonomy of Finnish universities by giving each university an independent legal personality, as a public corporation or... Also, universities’ management and decision-making systems were reformed. 2006 - The University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio decided to intensify their mutual cooperation as part of the Ministry of Education program addressing the structural development of Finnish higher education institutions.

The project for the University of Eastern Finland was selected as one of the Ministry of Education spearhead projects. The project formed a working group led by Professor Reijo Vihko.[3] 2007 - Professor Reijo Vihko's working group submitted a report proposing that cooperation between the two universities be further intensified. The two universities' senates formally agreed to merge, thereby forming a new university, deciding on its name, the University of Eastern Finland,[3] a few weeks later. 2008 - The organization structure and strategy of the University of Eastern Finland were completed. The University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio received a joint right to confer degrees in Economics and Business Administration.[3]

Itä-Suomen yliopisto (ISY[1], engl. University of Eastern Finland, lyhenne UEF[2]) on Joensuussa ja Kuopiossa toimiva yliopisto.[3] Yliopisto aloitti toimintansa 1. tammikuuta 2010, kun Kuopion ja Joensuun yliopistot yhdistyivät. Yliopistossa on noin 17 000 tutkinto-opiskelijaa ja 3 200 työntekijää[4]. Opetusta tarjotaan 12 koulutusalalla ja lähes sadassa pääaineessa tai koulutusohjelmassa.[5][3][6][7]

Itä-Suomen yliopistossa on neljä tiedekuntaa:[4] Tiedekunnista erillisiä yliopisto-organisaation osia ovat apteekki, kielikeskus ja kirjasto sekä jatkuvan oppimisen keskus.[4] Itä-Suomen yliopiston kampukset ovat Joensuussa ja Kuopiossa.[4] Itä-Suomen yliopisto (University of Eastern Finland, UEF) on Suomen monialaisin tiedeyliopisto. Vastaamme maailmanlaajuisiin haasteisiin ja rakennamme kestävää tulevaisuutta korkeatasoisen koulutuksemme ja tieteidenvälisen tutkimuksemme avulla. Tutkimuksemme on useilla aloilla maailman kärkeä.

Olemme 16 tieteenalalla maailman 500 parhaan yliopiston joukossa. Tarjoamme opetusta lähes sadassa pääaineessa ja koulutamme tulevaisuuden osaajia muuttuvan työelämän tarpeisiin. Itä-Suomen yliopistossa opiskelee noin 17000 tutkinto-opiskelijaa ja 14500 aikuisopiskelijaa. Työntekijöitä meillä on noin 3400. Yliopistoomme kuuluu neljä tiedekuntaa: filosofinen tiedekunta, luonnontieteiden, metsätieteiden ja tekniikan tiedekunta, terveystieteiden tiedekunta sekä yhteiskuntatieteiden ja kauppatieteiden tiedekunta. Kampuksemme sijaitsevat Joensuussa ja Kuopiossa.
