Bergen’s Center for Online Learning will launch in the spring with two fully virtual programs.

PARAMUS, N.J. – With demand for online options in higher education soaring and students seeking flexibility as they work toward earning degrees, Bergen Community College will launch its Center for Online Learning this spring. The fully virtual center will launch with two degree-granting programs, psychology and business administration, and a complete complement of online services, resources and assets. To ensure the highest quality online experience, Bergen will replace its online course delivery platform with the industry-leading “Canvas” environment – a technology-enhanced student-centered learning tool. “Offering online courses has become commonplace in higher education, but we seek to go beyond simply ‘offering’ classes’,” Bergen President Eric M. Friedman, Ph.D., said.

“Anchored by the College’s respected programs, faculty and student services, the Center for Online Learning will build on Bergen’s reputation for delivering a high-quality learning experience. Students throughout our region will now have online access to the same renowned programs that nearly 11,000 local residents enroll in each year. In the grand spirit of the community college mission of access and excellence, the center represents an important evolution in the way we serve our communities.” Seen as an important step in the evolution of higher education offerings available to local residents, the center has also garnered support from county government officials. In reflection of the administration’s stated goals of prioritizing support and enhancements for the College, Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco III and the Board of Commissioners have awarded the institution a $670,000 grant to assist in launching the center.

The seed money accounts for half of the center’s initial startup costs, including helping to finance the purchase of Canvas and expanding the online student resources. “By using industry-leading technology, this investment from the County allows the Bergen Community College to provide even greater access and flexibility for students seeking a high-quality and affordable education,” County Executive Tedesco said. “My administration remains steadfast in its commitment to education, and this is yet another example of the strong and continued partnership between the County of Bergen and the College.” Find your path to success with a diverse range of more than 120 degree, certificate, and continuing education programs. Students can take Bergen courses anywhere, at any time, with the Center for Online Learning. PARAMUS, N.J. – Bergen Community College has expanded its Center for Online Learning, adding fully accredited programs in criminal justice, information technology and professional studies as available options for the fall semester. The center debuted earlier this year with programs in psychology and business administration. Enrollment for the programs has opened at Bergen.edu and will continue through the start of classes on September 6. The center offers Bergen’s first fully virtual degree programs, which mirror the curricula of the College’s in-person offerings.

The virtual center provides students with the flexibility afforded by remote education while still having access to courses taught by Bergen faculty. Students also have access to a complete complement of online services – including the industry-leading “Canvas” course environment – tutoring, advising and career services, and financial aid resources. Unique to the center, each enrollee works with a dedicated student success coach who provides guidance on coursework and transitioning to a fully online program. To make the most of the fully virtual programs, students should have access to a personal computer, high-speed Internet, a webcam and microphone. Tuition remains the same as in-person Bergen classes. Bergen Community College members can review all recorded virtual programming by visiting the College’s YouTube playlist which is set up specifically for these programs.
