our common agenda united nations الأمم المتحدة

On the seventy-fifth anniversary of the United Nations, the world has faced its biggest shared test since the Second World War in the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Yet while our welfare, and indeed the permanence of human life, depend on us working together, international cooperation has never been harder to achieve. This report answers a call from UN Member States to provide recommendations to advance our common agenda and to respond to current and future challenges. Its proposals are grounded in a renewal of the social contract, adapted to the challenges of this century, taking into account younger and future generations, complemented by a new global deal to better protect... Through a deepening of solidarity—at the national level, between generations, and in the multilateral system—Our Common Agenda provides a path forward to a greener, safer and better future. On the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, Member States pledged to strengthen global governance for the sake of present and coming generations.

They requested the Secretary-General to report back with recommendations to advance our common agenda and to respond to current and future challenges (UN75 declaration - A/RES/75/1). His report 'Our Common Agenda' was launched on 10 September 2021. The Our Common Agenda report looks ahead to the next 25 years and represents the Secretary-General’s vision on the future of global cooperation. It calls for inclusive, networked, and effective multilateralism to better respond to humanity’s most pressing challenges. Fast forward to 2024, and the United Nations will host the Summit of the Future. This remarkable event will bring together world leaders, global champions, and industry titans, all united in their commitment to building a better world for the next and future generations.

In preparation for this momentous event, the UN Secretary-General has released nine policy briefs that are set to reshape our world. These briefs are not just words on paper; they’re our roadmap to a better future, aligned with the five principles of the Sustainable Development Goals: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership. However, there’s a problem – the language in these policy briefs can be complex and lengthy, making it challenging for anyone on a busy schedule, especially young people, to grasp the vital information. That is precisely why we have condensed each brief into comprehensible and visually captivating summaries. Through the Our Future Agenda program, UN Foundation aims to empower everyone with the knowledge they need to design our collective future, starting with our youngest generation. Each brief is a blueprint for change, outlining how to turn aspirations into actions.

With an emphasis on collaboration, inclusivity, and sustainability, these briefs present an inspiring view of what our world could become by 2100:
