We have five adult education regions in the City of Dublin ETB. City of Dublin FET College Adult Education Service provides free classes in adult education and community centres in over 150 locations in Dublin city. Tutors and learners work together in a supportive, warm, friendly environment.

Our courses are designed to bring learners together. Age is not a barrier - our learners are aged 18 to 105! Our Adult Programmes are mostly based in Parnell Adult Learning Centre. Here we provide education courses, as well as advice on education and employment options available throughout the city. All our courses are free and run throughout the year. Classes typically start in September and January although continuous enrollment is possible in some classes. Students can sign up for short ‘taster’ courses (6 weeks), as well as courses certified at QQI levels 2, 3 & 4 (14 weeks to full academic year). We run a range of courses in different subjects including Computers, Digital Photography, Art, Yoga, Cookery, Communications, Social Studies and much more.

We also occasionally more specific programmes such as Parenting groups, Settlement Skills (preparing to move on) and Preparation for College and Study Support. The City of Dublin ETB, Adult Education Service, Ballymun Campus, provides community education programmes in partnership with local community groups and organisations in Ballymun, Coolock, Darndale and Kilbarrack. Also programmes are provided directly in the Adult Education Service in Ballymun. City of Dublin Education and Training Board’s purpose is to develop, provide and support high quality person-centred learning opportunities for young people and adults in Dublin City. It has a wide remit to deliver education at first and second level as well as all adult education and training.

The sixteen Education and Training Boards in Ireland are public education providers established under the Irish Government. City of Dublin ETB is a multi-service and multi-centre education and training provider with geographical remit for Dublin City and is therefore one of the largest Education and Training Boards (ETBs) in Ireland. City of Dublin ETB works with a wide range of target populations and age groups: Community national schools (Primary) Second Level and Youth Services along with all types of Further education and Training. We are also responsible for supporting further and higher education students all over Ireland through SUSI, the national awarding authority for student grants. Even at European level, the Irish VET sector, more often referred to as FET (Further Education and Training) is characterised by a high degree of diversity in the type of programme, level, and learner. Further education and training programmes can be general, vocational, or mixed and delivered at levels 1 to 5/6 as per the European Framework of qualifications.
