Research is a *critical skill* everyone needs to know. It allows you to become a well-rounded, educated individual who can make smart decisions, thoughtful conclusions, and inquisitive discoveries both inside and outside the classroom. It is basically the background information, which can help you determine which types of information you will need. This is usually the first step of the research process. Here's what an example of your visit to the library might entail: Your professor tells you about an upcoming assignment. You will need a scholarly source (academic information, different from other basic information sources like Wikipedia, general knowledge news sites, etc.). So you decide to go to the library to see what you can find. You approach a staff member at the front desk who looks up your topic from the library's search bar. They offer some potential titles to you and you pick your favorite.

The library worker takes you to exactly where the book is. You find the book and take it back to the front desk where you check it out. (A process where the book is signed out to you, with the understanding that you will bring it back by the appointed time).
