(ex-offender assistance), and Administration. We are always seeking dedicated student interns and volunteers to work in our office, school gardens, and to help with projects like flower planters, events, advocacy and more!

This office maintains a Lansing internship program. Each semester, CMU students, representing various majors and grade levels, work in a variety of Legislative, Executive, and special interest offices. This is a tremendous opportunity for CMU students to learn the critical role government plays on campus and in our communities. We appreciate that many of our Capital Chippewa alumni serve as mentors for these interns, sharing their experiences and expertise through networking events throughout the semester. All students, regardless of major and year, are encouraged to apply. Internships are available during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.

The Political Science Department has formed relationships with individuals and organizations that offer internship opportunities to students who are interested in getting practical experience outside of the classroom. Internships give students a chance to apply what they've learned in the classroom, gain knowledge that can't be found in a textbook and make connections that help them find employment following graduation. Students should talk with their adviser about internship opportunities offered by organizations in the area, Lansing, and Washington, D.C. For students seeking credit for an internship, the Department requires 37.5 hours of documented work for each credit earned. Students interested in working as an intern in Lansing should talk with their adviser about their options. The Political Science and Public Administration Department partners with The Washington Center to offer students internship experience in the nation’s capitol. The Washington Center maintains relationships with thousands of organizations in the Washington, D.C., area to provide a wide array of options to suit students’ unique interests. Outside of their internship, students take classes offered by The Washington Center and participate in leadership forums. They also have the opportunity to network with fellow interns and individuals in positions that may help them find employment opportunities following graduation. Looking for an opportunity to get outside, grow vegetables, get involved in the community, and learn about urban agriculture? Consider an internship with the Lansing Urban Farm Project (LUFP)! LUFP is seeking interns who have an interest in urban agriculture, a desire to work as part of a farm team, willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions, and the ability to perform... Interns work with the farm manager to plant, weed, tend, and harvest crops.
They also help prepare for markets, participate in community outreach, and complete other farm tasks and projects. Interns will work alongside farm apprentices and farm manager. Spring internships: Spring internships run from mid-February through April 30 and will require two to four hours per week of on-site work. Interns will work with the farm manager to start seeds and plant, tend and harvest hoop house crops. Interns will also prepare outdoor fields for a season of growing and plant early crops such as onions, cabbage, radishes and salad mix. Summer internships: Summer internships last between eight weeks and three months and run between June 1 through October 31.
Option one: One day per week for eight to 12 weeks (Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to noon preferred). Option two: Four days per week for one, two or three months. Interns work alongside farm apprentices and the farm manager to plant, weed, harvest and market produce. The Citizens Research Council of Michigan offers unpaid internship opportunities to graduate and undergraduate students in political science, public administration, economics, or related fields. Internships offer the opportunity to work with the Council’s research staff to conduct research, develop policy papers, prepare presentations, and provide support in other office affairs.
Internships may be used to satisfy school requirements or simply to gain experience in the study of public policy analysis. The internships will last for an agreed upon number of weeks with time in the office ranging from 16-40 hours per week. Internships may be arranged in our Livonia or Lansing offices. Applicants must be willing to abstain from political activity (lobbying, campaigning, circulating petitions, fundraising for political candidates or causes, contacting the media related to political causes, etc.) during the internship period.
