Indeed, we are excited to come together to celebrate the achievements and outstanding contributions of our colleagues and students to their disciplines and professions. And, as the following pages illustrate, faculty have engaged in continuing scholarly and creative activities that have provided outstanding mentoring experiences for our undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to sharing faculty productivity, research excellence and creative works, this event celebrates faculty whose contributions have been recognized as exemplary.
Specifically, the program honors the recipients of the Edwin L. “Bud” May award, as well as the Dean’s Awards of Excellence in Research and Creative Activity and all 2022 award recipients. We are also privileged to recognize the outstanding research mentors of each college. Finally, we are grateful — truly grateful — for the faculty’s sustained commitment to our students, learning that is informed by research, as well as creativity, and a faculty that fosters academic excellence. The work and commitment of every member of the campus community to advance the mission has been, and will continue to be, inspiring. Jennifer Buchter has over 25 years Buchterof professional experience working withyoung children and their families in variouseducational and human service programs.Her research interests include inclusion,social skills and communication, diversityand inclusion, and educator/personnelpreparation. Misty Rhoads, Ph.D., Professor Department of Public Health and Nutrition College of Health and Human ServicesDr. Misty Rhoads has been serving as a faculty mentor for EIUstudents since 2007. She has led efforts inwriting, revising, and teaching researchcourses for the Department.Dr. Rhoads has regularly mentored students Rhoadsin research projects, encouraging students topresent at on-campus scholarly events andstate conferences. She is well-respected bystudents and colleagues for her mentoringpractices and dedication to students.
3Wutthigrai Boonsuk, Ph.D., Associate Professor School of Technology Lumpkin College of Business & Technology Dr. Wutthigrai Boonsuk is an interim program coordinator and Associate Professor of Engineering Technology at the School of Technology. His research areas include robotics and control systems, human-machine interfaces, manufacturing systems, rapid prototyping, and geographic information systems. Throughout the past academic year, Dr. Boonsuk has engaged Boonsuk students in extra-curricular creative activities, including student research presentations and national robotics competitions. Katherine Shaw, Ph.D., Associate Professor Department of Art + Design College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Dr.
Katherine A. Shaw has taught at EIU for the past 12 years in the Fashion Merchandising area of the Department of Art+ Design. Dr. Shaw provides amazing mentoring for her students and goes above and beyond to ensure their success. One of her current students (Madison Freeman) describes her best: “One of the best words to describe Dr. Shaw is selfless.
She is constantly helping students and going above and beyond what her job responsibilities are. I have never met a teacher quite like her because she truly puts everything in for her students and is always wanting to improve and further our knowledge even if it means individualizing Shaw...
