Tampere is best explored on foot and the city is very compact and pretty easy to navigate. Virtually all the must-see attractions in Tampere are within comfortable walking distance of each other. For the outer-lying sights, you can also get around Tampere using the city’s efficient public transport system which consists of bus and light rail (tram) services.
The city’s public transportation system is run by Nysse, which offers extensive bus services throughout Tampere and the surrounding municipalities. What is it? An amusement park packed with experiences Why go? Särkänniemi isn’t just an amusement park – it’s an experience park. Alongside roller coasters and carousels, there’s plenty to see and do for those who prefer a gentler pace.
There’s Kärsänniemi, a fun area for little ones, and Doghill, a storybook world based on author Mauri Kunnas’s beloved tales, complete with farm animals. Fans of stars and seas should head to the planetarium and aquarium, while retro lovers can get their fix in the vintage arcade, home to more than 30 classic pinball and coin-operated machines. The visit wouldn’t be complete without taking the lift up Näsinneula Tower, which soars nearly 170 metres above the city. Don’t miss: Särkänniemi is open all year round. In October, the park hosts the spooky Karmiva Karnevaali with ghosts and pumpkin lanterns. In December, Doghill transforms into a cosy Christmas wonderland, with gingerbread workshops and pony rides for the little ones.
Opening hours: Some attractions are open throughout the year, others only in summer and autumn. What is it? Festive treats and jingle bells in the heart of the city Not many people know Tampere, Finland’s third-largest city (and really second-largest, as Espoo is essentially a suburb of Helsinki). I suspect that will change soon. The city is undergoing an immensely cool revival — craft breweries multiplying rapidly, a modernizing downtown, a delicious food culture that plays to Nordic strengths and ingredients, and a thriving urban sauna culture.
In fact, Tampere is considered the Sauna Capital of Finland (and thus the world, essentially) for its record-setting 55 public saunas — adding 20 saunas since my last visit, when the number was 35! From old-school historic public saunas to new-wave trendy sauna-bar-restaurants for the millennial generation, there’s a sauna for every type of traveler. For that reason alone it deserves a spot on your Finland travels! Tampere is a vibrant city in Finland that offers plenty of fun activities and attractions for visitors. In this guide, we will be highlighting some of the top things to do in Tampere. From stunning parks to exciting events, this city has a little bit of everything. Let’s get started on your journey to enjoy all that Tampere has to offer! Visit Pyynikki Park and Observation Tower for a memorable experience. This park offers scenic trails and beautiful natural surroundings. You can enjoy walking or jogging while surrounded by nature’s beauty.
The observation tower stands tall and provides stunning panoramic views of Tampere. Climb the stairs to the top and soak in the wonderful sights. From this height, you can see the lakes and the cityscape, making it a perfect spot for photos. Don’t forget to indulge in traditional Finnish doughnuts at the café located near the tower. The “Pyynikki doughnuts” are famous among locals and visitors alike. Their warm and sugary goodness adds to the charm of your visit.
