I used 3D Studio Max to create all models. Some objects I created from a box and others were created from a plane. For the headband, I used a plane and extruded the edges so they would look how I wanted. Once half of the model looked good, I would apply a symmetry modifier to the stack allowing the model to look the same on both sides even if I need to make a few... I then shell the shape so it isn't flat anymore. For the modeling of the microphone I used mainly box modeling.

I started with a simple box and from there I added swiftloops to create my shape. Once I made the first part of the mic I would detach the faces I needed for the next object. From here I moved the vertices that I wanted to move until it looked good. To create textures for the ear cushion I used Substance Painter. First find some textures that look good, in this case a leather texture and a fabric texture that can look like stitching.. Then apply that texture to the whole object.

Once the base textures are applied a mask is then added to the different layers allowing certain areas to be shown while other don't have that texture visible. After getting a base for everything it is always good to go back and get finer detail with a tablet and different brush types. Triplanar textures in Substance Painter can help a lot when trying to make the texture fit over the whole object. The textures on the ear cover were a brushed aluminum, and another brushed aluminum but more reflective and no color. To get textures to look more realistic, you should always use references. I took a picture of the ear cover on headphones that I have and used that as my reference in this case.

Once you have your reference photos, simply import them into Substance Painter. Using the image projection tool you can draw only parts of the image chosen to be on your object. From this point it is about getting the mask to look proper and make sure that you get your desired look. For this project we are required to create a timeline for the entire project and a proposal for why we think it should be made. We also made this website to showcase everything that we did during the project. All assets are to be made by the student that will be a main object in the scene.

I am currently a Student at Eastern Michigan University studying to become a 3D generalist and earn a Bachelors of Science degree within the Simulation, Animation, Gaming (SAG) program. I have in my free time been experimenting with creating scenes in Unity that work with the HTC Vive. Navigate to the render setting to view this window or press F10 when in 3D Studio Max. To get the better quality photos or videos for your renders changing the Output size to HDTV (video) and set the resolution to 1920 x 1080. When in the render settings, click the V-Ray tab and change the image sampler to bucket so it renders in sections instead of the whole image at once. Increase the max subdivs to 32 and lower the noise threshold to 0.02.

If you would like better shadow quality make sure to check the use local subdivs box in global DMC. From here you can increase the subdivs for each light you have casting a shadow. In the Global Illumination tab, or GI, for indoor scenes use Irradiance map as the primary engine and as the secondary engine use Light cache. These are the better settings for rendering something indoors. to set the file up for animations, in the Irradiance map settings change the preset to medium animation. For the setting in Light cache, find something that make the image look good and not too fuzzy, this happened to to around 750 subdivs, but I wouldn't go over 1000 subdivs.

There are many different render elements that can be used. To add render elements navigate to the render elements tab in the render settings and click add. A new window will pop up and you can find one that says VrayExtraTex. In the elements settings, where is says texture add a VrayDrit map. This is the render element you want to use with 3DS Max to create the ambient occlusion which will make lighting and shadows look more natural when blended together with the final renders. Every render is going to have different lighting setting to get the effect that is desired.

For the lights created in this scene These are my settings. The multiplier controls the intensity or the brightness of the light selected. The main light of the scene is supposed to be the brightest. When trying to change the color of a light make sure the temperature box is checked for more realistic warm or cold colors. If you want to make some colored LED lights just change the color to something very bright. Environment maps are something that can add more character to your scene and add more lights by using and HDRI.

The shadows will look very low quality if you do not change the subdivs, it is recommended to increase these to make the lighting better instead of messing with only render settings. 3D Modeling is the 2nd unit we did in grade 9. For this unit like every other unit, we used a special program, called Maya. We did the first assignment, then we were forced to stop this unit because of the lockdown. Not everyone has a good enough device to handle Maya, so we had to stop this unit as it would be very hard for some people to finish this unit. In this unit, we learned how to successfully sketch.

We learned the proper sketching methods, such as correct posture and hand movement. After, we started using Maya, which Mr. Elise introduced us to. I was able to make a snowman, with a hat, hands, nose, eyes and mouth. I was able to make fences, houses, and trees. I was very happy with my product.

After this assignment, we were supposed to make chess pieces, using Maya. From the progress we did before we stopped this unit, I would say that this is one of my favourite units I did in grade 9 technology. 3D Modeling is a unit filled with different skills in order to be successful. Skills such as sketching and 3D design are really needed. 3D design using Maya is very confusing unless it is clarified by the teacher or by friends. At the first of the unit, I honestly was not really intrigued in this unit because I don't like sketching.

However, I stayed patient and it paid off because after mastering sketching, we started with Maya. I enjoyed Maya, even though it was very complicated. I enjoyed creating something from shapes and adjusting it with angles. However, even with clarification Maya was still confusing because of all the mechanics it has. Let's start from the beginning. The first thing we did was sketching.

Mr. Elise thought us how to sketch with the correct hand movement and posture. It took me a couple of hours to understand and master sketching. We learned how to sketch many different objects and shapes. Spheres, rectangles, cylinders, cubes are all examples of shapes that I mastered sketching. After sketching shapes, I had to understand how to combine all these shapes in order to make objects, such as trees, fences, houses and many others.

Unfortunately, I do not have any of my sketches no more and I don't have a photo of it. However, I do have my friends picture that you can use to look at: There are other things we learned in the sketching process. Things such as the rule fo thrids were very important to learn in the sketching skill. The rule of thirds allows for a balance of the main picture and its background. We learned many other things that we learned in other grades and classes, such as the usage of space.

After the sketching process and getting the sketch approved by the teacher, we started the Maya process. Unfortunately, I do not have the files for my Maya, meaning I do not have photos for it. Since this unit was ended early, I was caught off guard and I didn't prepare. When I started Maya, it was pretty confusing. There were many different types of tools that we needed to understand. Zooming, using the mouse wheel allowed us to precisely manipulate shapes and their angles.

There are more, such as the unique movement of the camera that we needed to master in order to be successful. In my Maya, I was able to make a snowman with a very nice looking hat, along with trees with detail with fences and a basic house. Before I could complete anymore, the lockdown occurred and we had to put an end to its unit. This unit is one of the most complicated units in grade 9 technology. I personally think the only unit that is harder was robotics, mainly because it was a combination of skills that I never experienced before. (Scripting and wiring) Since this unit was very hard, I experienced many complications that slowed my progression in this unit.
