Fortunately, the best streaming services are ensuring you’ll have plenty of new movies to pick from over the next week. Over on Netflix, this week marks the long-awaited debut of the latest movie in the “Knives Out” franchise, “Wake Up Dead Man.” Spoiler: It’s just as excellent as the previous two. Meanwhile, Prime Video has another seasonal offering, this time starring an adorable pooch, and Apple TV marks the end of the F1 season by dropping the blockbuster “F1 The Movie.” Oh, and there are... 'Jay Kelly,' 'The Abandons' and 'Mission: Impossible' lead our weekend watch list When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. Here’s how it works. As early December settles in with its mix of twinkly lights and creeping winter chill, it’s the perfect time to curl up with new movies and TV shows to watch this weekend on Netflix,... The first batch of true holiday vibes arrives with the Christmas comedy "Oh.

What. Fun.," while Noah Baumbach’s "Jay Kelly," starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler, brings a sharper, more awards-season edge to the weekend slate. Action fans can gear up for Tom Cruise’s high-octane final bow in "Mission Impossible – Final Reckoning." Over on the TV shows front, "The Abandons" saddles up for a gritty frontier ride. Here's our guide on what to watch this weekend. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, though this list of new TV shows and movies to stream this weekend includes very few Christmas movies.

I’ll have a separate guide for the best holiday-themed fare up soon. It’s about that time of year, when the lights go up and holly, jolly Christmas tunes come on the radio. It’s another big weekend for streaming content, though not as big as last weekend and the much-anticipated release of Stranger Things 5. In entertainment news, we’ve just learned that Netflix is purchasing Warner Bros. and will devour HBO Max in the $82.7 billion deal. It’s the end of an era.

My only prediction is grim: We will never get The Sopranos or Deadwood or The Wire or even The Pitt quality series from HBO ever again. They will all move toward Netflix’s dread algorithm, toward its lower-quality cinematography. It’s also a death knell for the movie theater business, not to mention the high caliber films Warner Bros. puts out — you can kiss those goodbye. Kiss your wallet goodbye, also, as this kind of acquisition leads to major price-hikes for subscribers. Competition is good.

Massive media mergers? Not so much. Don’t get me wrong. Netflix has made many perfectly fine TV shows and movies, but those are generally the exception to the rule. HBO has many of the greatest TV shows ever made. All good things come to an end.

I just wish, perhaps selfishly, that I didn’t have to witness so many in my lifetime. In any case, on a brighter note, we have shows and movies to discuss. As always, I’ve searched high and low for all the best new shows and movies for you to stream on the various streaming services we all subscribe to these days. Send this article to your social connections. Send this article to your social connections. We’ve reached December, which in the streaming world translates to a glut of holiday movies and holiday TV shows.

But it’s not just Christmas content filling the streaming libraries this month. There’s also a ton of classic films that will be perfect family viewing over the holidays, a number of new TV shows that will generate holiday buzz, and some hit 2025 movies coming to... Prime Video has the Season 2 debut of “Fallout” (Dec. 17), while Netflix has a new season of “Emily in Paris” (Dec. 18) and is slowly drip-feeding subscribers the final season of “Stranger Things” (Dec. 25 and Dec.

31). By joining TV Guide, you agree to our Terms of Use and acknowledge the data practices in our Privacy Policy. If you didn't get enough Stranger Things over Thanksgiving break, don't you worry: There are still two parts left to come in its final season's lengthy rollout. Part 2 hits Netflix on Christmas, while the movie-length series finale (that pretty much just makes it a movie, but whatever, we can continue the charade) will be released on New Year's Eve. Otherwise, it's a light December in terms of TV releases, but there are a handful of premieres to help make your season bright: Fallout and Percy Jackson and the Olympians both return for their... And if none of those appeal to you, at least Daniel Craig is back to speaking in Benoit Blanc's silly voice in Wake Up Dead Man, the newest film in the Knives Out series.

Our guide to the best TV and streaming movies in December is divided into three sections: the best shows to watch this month, the best shows to watch by streaming service, and a calendar... Whatever you're looking for, you'll find it below. This town ain't big enough for both Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson. In The Abandons, a new Western series created by Sons of Anarchy's Kurt Sutter, Headey and Anderson face off as a pair of widowed matriarchs separated by privilege in mid-19th-century Washington Territory. Headey's Fiona Nolan is an Irish woman who has forged a home for an adopted family of outcasts (the titular Abandons) on silver-rich land, which Anderson's wealthy Constance Van Ness is determined to seize. Their fellow haves and have-nots are played by an extensive cast that includes Michael Greyeyes, Nick Robinson, Diana Silvers, Lamar Johnson, Lucas Till, Aisling Franciosi, and Brían F.
