Welcome to 8th Grade Science! This year we will cover a variety of topics, including the scientific method, astronomy, the structure of Earth, plate tectonics, rocks & minerals, as well as physics topics such as buoyancy, forces, and simple... There will be assignments, entrance & exit tickets, labs, quizzes and tests throughout the 6 week marking periods. I am available for review and support after school most days. Neatness, complete sentences, and being done on time all count towards a successful assignment. Take PRIDE in your work!

Artruc. I have been teaching in at Livonia Middle School since 1996. My husband and I live in Livonia and have 2 daughters who graduated Livonia HS. We have a dog, one goat, and one kitten. I love teaching science and enjoy the outdoors. In my free time I like to bike, kayak, hike, travel, and am an avid reader.

I am also involved in the local Chip Holt Nature Center, located in Vitale Park, in Lakeville. We host monthly programs that I will share with the kids. I am also involved in Journeys of Solutions, which is a nonprofit organization that supports sustainable projects to help communities in developing countries, such as Nicaragua, Africa and Nepal. Writing does take practice, and it's important to encourage your child to practice writing on a daily bases. This can include: have them write a thank you letter to a relative, or jotting down different sounds and sights they hear and see throughout a day!

Be creative and have fun with different writing activities in your home! It's important for everyone in my classroom to feel that I, as the teacher, am meeting their learning needs. It will be my priority to pre-assess each student to know their learning styles and also make sure I use their learning styles in my daily lessons. 8th Grade Social Studies is a yearlong class that explores the history of the United States from Colonization through the Civil War and reconstruction. The past will be explored in a way that is relevant and applicable to our world today and to promote and practice high-level, critical thinking and effective communication. Analytic reading and evidence-based writing are an integral part of history, so it will be an integral part of our class. The curriculum is based on the district guidelines, Oregon State Standards for Middle School Social Studies and the Common Core Standards for reading and writing in history. These specific unit goals are all connected to yearlong goals that will be assessed throughout the year in order to monitor progress and growth.
