As you may know, colleges are a step up from high school in terms of your social life, your educational life, and even your mental house. When you step onto campus, remember your purpose and why you are at college and never forget it because if you do it will be hard to get through the tough times. I want you to keep in mind three things. Locate a group of about 5 to 6 people to build a relationship with those people to have a sense of community between the 5 to 6 of you. Use the resources that you paid for in your tuition because if you don't nobody will. Go to the library when you have a break in between classes because you might find people there you can have a community with.

Do your homework or class work there so that when you go home you have to worry about the stress of procrastinating and waiting to the last minute to do something. Lastly, go to your professor's office hours. Why? They can get lonely in office hours because barely any students go there, so you can build a relationship with the professor and you can get help on something that you didn't want to... Remember, you are not alone in college and don't put yourself in a corner if you are the minority at an institution. You can't go about life alone and with the right support and community anything is possible.

You got this. My 1st semester of college was hard. I did everything right and tried to apply the tips I gave above but...something was missing. I felt like I didn’t want it enough. When the Valley Fires came around it didn’t help with my sanity nor my motivation to strive forward. It was a learning experience.

And I definitely learned from it, without community you can’t reach your maximum potential. As of now, I’m quite surprised I even made it this far even with all the setbacks of this year alone. A tip before I close out. Try to roleplay…..get your mind out- nevermind. Creating scenarios based on a theme and extensively writing about it is definitely a great way to strengthen your writing skills without even knowing it. (and it can expand or show your creativity) 2nd semester…..wow.

Much different than you’d expect. I learned from my mistakes. Taking a class over again could be the greatest rerun you needed, but its all in how you take it. You’d think retaking some classes would give you the benefits seeing the same people, but no not at all. The class I was most hyped for (thanks to rate my professor) was my English class, due to its high rating and positive reviews. Once I settled in, I knew immediately this was going to be my favorite class.

We had many enriching conversations with the One and Only, Professor Kelan Koning. I furthered my knowledge about my identity when I took this class and that was...enlightening, I was honored to have such an amazing time in English, which is usually a boring class. (no shade) What a life changing experience. I say this to let you know that college is...hard. However, with the right community and resources, success at college is attainable. Try to get Professor Konings class if you can.

You won’t regret it. I promise….as little as that means to some. Anyway, enjoy your time gaining those freshman 15 and I wish you nothing but success. Good luck. You might not even need it. Best regards, Aarin Morgan
