Learner.org is one of the most visited websites for free educational materials in the country. Annenberg Learner delivers its more than 100 multimedia courses and workshops free through learner.org. Its website, which also houses interactive activities, downloadable guides, and resources coordinated with each video series, supports teachers and learners worldwide. Annenberg Learner was known variously as the Annenberg/CPB Project, the Annenberg/CPB Math and Science Project, and Annenberg/CPB from the mid-1980s through 2003. During this period, it was a project contracted by the Annenberg Foundation located at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. In 2004, the project was incorporated into the Annenberg Foundation.

Between 2004 through 2010 it operated under the name Annenberg Media. In 2011, it became Annenberg Learner. Annenberg Learner now leads the field in providing free educational resources online. As part of its mission to advance excellent teaching in American schools, Annenberg Learner funds and distributes educational video programs – with coordinated online and print materials – for the professional development of K-12... Many programs are also intended for students in the classroom and viewers at home, with videos that exemplify excellent teaching. Annenberg Learner also partners with impactful organizations to provide other means of achieving this goal.

As part of the Annenberg Foundation, Learner supports the Foundation’s mission to encourage the development of more effective ways to share ideas and knowledge. K-12 educators, students, and lifelong learners may access Annenberg Learner resources for free at Learner.org. Our mission is to advance excellent teaching in American schools through the development and distribution of multimedia resources for teaching and learning, as well as strategic partnerships that bring unique professional development and educational... We are a division of the Annenberg Foundation, whose mission is to advance public well-being through improved communication. Annenberg Learner has funded and distributed more than 100 multimedia courses and workshops to help teachers keep current with the content they teach. Professional development resources provide teachers with research on the most effective teaching strategies, their connection to national education content standards, and examples of these principles as applied in real classrooms. The video components are paired with additional materials that include online texts, course and workshop guides, and extensive background information to enhance the learning experience. Using these resources, teachers can learn from experts, other teachers, and even students who reveal their unique interpretations of the content.

From the mid-1980s through 2003 – when it was a project contracted by the Annenberg Foundation, located at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting – Annenberg Learner was known variously as the Annenberg/CPB Project, the... At the conclusion of that contract, the Annenberg/CPB staff was incorporated into the Annenberg Foundation and operated under the name Annenberg Media from 2004 through 2010. As of January 1, 2011, we became Annenberg Learner. Over that period of 30 years, we developed educational media for colleges and K-12 schools. Many other projects that focused on educational improvement were also funded by the Annenberg Foundation during those years, including the Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University and the Annenberg Challenge. Workshop components include eight lively half-hour video programs with leading researchers and practicing teachers discussing how the standards play out in day-to-day classroom situations, a workshop guide available online and in print, and interactive... Professional Development > Teaching Foreign Languages K-12: A Library of Classroom Practices A video library for K – 12 foreign language teachers; 28 half-hour, 8 approx. ten-minute, and 2 one-hour video programs, library guide, and website. Teaching Foreign Languages K – 12 is a video library illustrating effective instruction and assessment strategies for teaching foreign languages. The language classrooms shown in this library include Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Italian, Latin, Russian, and Spanish. All classroom videos are subtitled in English and are appropriate for K – 12 teachers of any foreign language.

Created in conjunction with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), the library includes a 30-minute introduction and 60-minute overviews of ACTFL’s Standards for Foreign Language Learning and new assessment practices,... In the classroom programs, teachers from schools across the country model interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes of communication throughout a range of grade and competency levels. Concepts of culture, comparisons, connections to students — lives, and the importance of community are also integrated into the lessons. A web site and print guide accompany the video programs, providing a complete professional development experience. The Teaching Foreign Languages K–12 video library captures best practices in foreign language teaching in elementary, middle, and high school classrooms across the U.S. The languages featured in the collection are: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian, Spanish.

The library and professional development guide bring to life the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages. Illustrating effective instruction and assessment strategies, the series documents 34 teachers and their students in K–12 classrooms around the country as they study nine languages across a range of competency levels.
