The second online AONTAS STAR Award celebration will be hosted by Colm O’Regan comedian, bestselling author and broadcaster. Attendees will have an opportunity to celebrate adult learning together in this fun interactive event. The STAR Awards recognise the very best in adult learning in Ireland. This year, we are celebrating and acknowledging the incredible work that adult learning providers have done in adapting their provision during COVID-19 to ensure that the learners’ needs continue to be met. Winners will be announced during the Adult Learners’ Festival 2022 (7th-11th March). Nominations for the 16th AONTAS STAR Awards were received under five categories for adult learning initiatives that support:

Twenty-nine initiatives were initally shortlisted in these five categories, with some categories divided according to the size of the initiative (Small/Medium and Large). The STAR Awards recognises the very best in adult learning in Ireland. We celebrate and acknowledge the incredible adult learning initiatives going on across the country, in support of learners, as part of the AONTAS Adult Learners’ Festival. Sponsored by Mental Health Ireland, this category is open to adult learning initiatives that support increased health and wellbeing for participants, for example mental health, physical activity, recovery from addiction, nutrition and sporting projects. Sponsored by EPALE Ireland, this category is open to adult learning initiatives that support educational equality by providing access to adult learners from low-income backgrounds/learners with disabilities into third-level programmes and/or initiatives that promote... Sponsored by Open College Network Northern Ireland, this category is open to adult learning initiatives that support all participants to effectively engage with their local community and contribute to social and cultural life, examples...

Sponsored by SAOLTA, this category is open to adult learning initiatives that support Global Citizenship Education by empowering learners to assume active roles to face and resolve global challenges and to become proactive contributors... Delighted to report that three organisations from NI have been shortlisted for this year’s STAR Awards organised by AONTAS. The local nominees are: Orchardville – nominated in the category Health and Wellbeing -Large Organisations The NOW Group (Verve programme) – nominated under the category Social Inclusion – Large Organisations Start360 (Switch unto Employment) – nominated under the category Sustainable Development through Education – Large Organisations.
