Better Power Supply For Qutest Audiogon Discussion Forum
I see that the Chord Qutest gets pretty good reviews, but I can't get over the fact they sell a high-end DAC with a SWITCHING power supply. It has got to sound better with a good linear power supply, or perhaps one of the iFi switching supplies that have noise cancellation. So has anyone used a better power supply with the Qutest and can you tell me what supply you used, where you got it, how you hooked it into micro USB, and the resulting... I'm particularly interested in linear power supplies. There are a number of suppliers, pretty inexpensive ones from China and then more expensive ones elsewhere. Also let me describe my taste and could someone familiar with the Qutest check whether I might like it?
I mainly listen to classical. I like musical involvement and of the many factors that go into musical involvement, I think dynamics (micro and macro) is the most important. I don't mind if it's a little warm and pretty, which is better than being clinical. A natural, not artificial, sense of resolution is good. I use the word "resolution" rather than "detail" because there are so many ways a DAC can hype or etch detail in a way that's unnatural, but "resolution" implies that you can pick out... I realize that stunning resolution is mostly found in much more expensive products, so I am happy with something less, but not muddy or smeared.
I have a defective wall wart on one of my stereo network devices. Can anyone recommend some brands/sources of good quality power supplies. I need a 5V .5 amp output. Not looking for anything in the thousands but have no problem spending a few hundred or so for something good. Also Chinese made is fine if its good quality. If you don’t mind Chi-Fi, the LHY LPS should be on your list of considerations.
I have LPS25VA and LPS15VA. Both are dead quiet and good performers. The LPS25VA has two outputs, suitable for powering two low-current-demand sources. The cost is around $190. Cheap one trick pony,....Topping P50, $130 While I realize linear power supplies share the same basic principle—using a transformer to step down voltage, rectification to convert AC to DC, and regulation to maintain a steady output….there are several factors that... Did you find one particular LPS performed better than the others? I am looking for a dual output 12V / 3A power supply to power my Telegartner Opt Bridge 1000M. Ferrum HYPSOS Dual Output with its ‘Sweet Spot Tuning’ has caught my attention. Any users out here that is currently using this LPS?
A good friend told me to buy a professional lab rated LPS as they are cheaper then Audiophile ones and made to a higher standard. I used an Sbooster with my Auralic Mini it's built like a tank and was a solid improvement. Not familiar with the Ferrum HYPSOS.
