The Clifton race track was located at the corner of Main and Piaget Avenues, now the site of Memorial Park, the Main Clifton Library, and Christopher Columbus Middle School / Clifton Stadium. Racing took place here from the 1870s to about 1890. The track had a glass-enclosed grandstand, and a betting stand with steam heat and electric lights. It met its end due to a crusade against gambling by local ministers and other influential people. Betting on the horse races came to an end in January 1891, when the track owner was convicted and fined $5,000. A Driving Park Association operated here in the early 1900s, and circuses later used the grounds for annual performances.

In 1924, the racetrack property was purchased so that the Board of Education could build a new high school. Shortly thereafter, the hotel on the site was razed and the track itself leveled and plowed under.
