Prerequisite: World History, Early American History Test Prep: American Government; will need to do some additional study on the political parties, the Senate and House, and departments of the US government. Course Description: The first half of the year is a study of American government with an emphasis on the Constitution, the ultimate law of the land. Students will use primary sources including speeches, photographs, laws, Supreme Court opinions, the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights, and other documents to draw their own conclusions about rights and liberties. Students will be expected to reflect on how a government’s structure and decisions impact the country’s culture. The second half of the year we will be looking at different countries, including Russia, China, Great Britain, Nigeria, Iran, and Mexico, and their varying governments, including communism, socialism, and theocracy.

A final project will look at the impact of government on culture. Throughout the course the students will also be learning political and physical world geography. Grading will be on quizzes, essays, a variety of assignments, as well as a midterm and final exam. Note: This is our high school “Geography and Cultures” course. The first half of the year draws from Documents of Freedom. The second half of the year draws from Georgia Virtual Learning AP Comparative Government course.

Because this is based on an AP course (exam), I think it could be listed as an honors course on a transcript. The spring covers AP® Comparative Government and Politics, which is an introduction to the methodology of comparative politics and an in-depth look at six different states: Iran, Nigeria, China, Russia, Mexico, and Great Britain. Students will understand what factors contributed to the development of the American political system as well as the structure of the U.S.

government and the American political process. They will also recognize major comparative political concepts and how to apply them. Finally, students will be able to compare political institutions and processes from across the world and form sound conclusions based on those comparisons. This course prepares students for both AP® Exams in the spring. One Schoolhouse is fully accredited with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. We are an approved online publisher for the University of California.

It uses only free materials found on the internet. This site holds preschool, kindergarten, and first through eighth. We have a separate high school site. Choosing a level (on My EP) will set reading, language arts, math, computer and logic, any of which can be switched to a more appropriate level without affecting the others. Choosing a theme enables all of your children to study the same topic at the same time. The themes are based around the history courses of ancient history, early American history, geography and cultures, and modern history.

Music and art are part of these themes and science is set to what would typically be studied at the same time. You choose the courses. Set it and forget it. Then your child just clicks on the assignment box for each course (found on My EP) and does their assignment. It will track what lesson they are on and their days. It does not save any other information.
