The Computer Science Program requires a “C” or better in any course in the College of Engineering and Science prior to taking courses for which these are prerequisites. A student must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA in all Computer Science courses. *Directed Electives are chosen by the student in consultation with a faculty advisor and approved by the Computer Science Program Chair. The Mathematics Elective must be above MATH 242 (MATH 308 is highly recommended). **All Computer Science majors are required to complete either a minor in another discipline, or a set of directed electives chosen in consultation with the faculty advisor from one of the following concentrations: Louisiana Tech University offers rigorous and relevant academic programs.

Coursework emphasizes both theory and real-world application, preparing students to navigate today’s media landscape, collaborate in teams, and lead conversations in business or organizational environments. The graduate certificate in Computer Science Education is designed for educators who want to bring computer science to life in today’s classrooms. This program gives individuals the tools to teach programming, computational thinking, and problem-solving effectively. Through hands-on, practical coursework, students gain foundational and advanced knowledge in coding, algorithms, software design, and pedagogical strategies that align with state and national K–12 computer science standards. The program also prepares educators to develop inclusive, engaging learning environments that inspire students to pursue careers in tech. Living with Cyber (part 1 of 3) CSC/CYEN 130: The Science of Computing I Course Description: An introduction to computing, algorithm analysis and development, computer programming, data structures, computer architecture, and problem-solving.

This is the first Living with Cyber course. Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students should: 1. Be able to identify a problem’s variables, constraints, and objectives; 2. Be able to represent algorithms in various ways (e.g., flowcharts, pseudocode);

A series of information assurance courses teach students to detect, report, and resolve cyber threats.

Course content also covers the use of code encryption to securely pass information between systems, building and using secure audio and video communications equipment, developing tamper protection products, and providing trusted information solutions. Students master the skills of assessing, auditing evaluation, testing network and systems security, and conducting forensic investigations. In addition to classroom learning, you’ll gain hands-on experience in our state-of-the-art Center for Information Assurance Lab, where you’ll apply skills in data analytics, AI, and cybersecurity. Students can further specialize their studies through our undergraduate certificate in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity Management, a credential that prepares you to excel in one of the fastest-growing industries in Louisiana and beyond. Certificate coursework develops your ability to protect systems and digital assets, detect and respond to cyber threats, and conduct risk assessments and forensic investigations.
