The ICT Essentials for Teachers Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) is designed to provide teachers with the skills and competencies needed to both incorporate information and communications technology (ICT) in their teaching and use... The course covers a wide range of thematic areas, from basic computer use and maintenance, including hardware, software, applications, and troubleshooting, to internet, email, and social media in the educational context. Through the course, teachers will develop the skills to understand, evaluate, and operationalize ICT within the context of related national educational policies, integrate ICT in education from a pedagogical perspective, manage learners’ project-based learning... On completion of this course, you will be able to: The programme consists of 12 modules. Each module is structured as follows: Information about synchronous meetings on Zoom/MS Teams ICT Essentials for Teachers outlines the core competencies that will provide teachers in Nigeria with needed skills to help them integrate ICT into their classroom experience. This Course was developed under a partnership between UNESCO, the National Universities Commission, and relevant stakeholders in Nigeria in line with the third version of the ICT–CFT.

The course draws from local and nearby experiences and OER which have been contextualised to meet the need of educators and learners in Nigeria. ICT Essentials for Teachers has a total of 50 notional hours and is comprised of all the six aspects of the ICT CFT Framework Version 3. It contains detailed information on processes and procedures for integrating ICT in education for problem-solving, critical thinking, innovative skills, and to promote life-long learning. The knowledge acquisition level was identified by stakeholders as the most appropriate focus first iteration of the course. Nevertheless, some units contain competencies found at the Knowledge Deepening level. UNESCO ICT CFT: These units of study are directly aligned to the UNESCO ICT Competency Framework for Teachers (CFT).

The units are an amalgam of the very best of the national ICT Essentials courses developed over the last ten years in countries as diverse as Kenya, Rwanda, Philippines, Oman, South Africa, Guyana, Egypt,... This generic version of the ICT Essentials course also includes new materials volunteered recently by the Global Education Coalition (GEC). This initial offering of 18 units, aligns with educator competencies at the first level of the UNESCO ICT CFT: Knowledge Acquisition. Emergency Remote Teaching: Since the 2020 pandemic many teachers are under pressure from their school management and/or the local education authority to start teaching remotely! If your not sure how to teach remotely we would encourage enrolling in this course's Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT) learning path or track. The ICT Essentials ERT track will provide newbies with some basic ICT skills, introduce you to some easy to learn digital tools and help you coordinate student activities remotely.
