Eng 101 Final Exam Eng 101 A23 English 101 Final Essay Studocu
As ENG 101 comes to an end, I look back and reflect on how much progress I have made as a writer, reader, and critical thinker. In the beginning of the course I had little to no confidence in my writing but over time it has come to grow. In this final essay I plan to gather all my past writing reflections and assignments to prove the growth within my journey. It will highlight my writing process, goals, skills, and my plan to further expand this experience into other non-composition courses. To begin, when describing my initial writing process, I would say it was unstructured, lacked organization and there wasn’t much thought put into it. In my first reflection it was noted through feedback from my peers that the order of my writing affected its efficiency and clarity.
Taking what I reflected on from the first project I started to plan what I would write down in each paragraph. Then as I made my way to completing the writing projects, I learned to adjust my approach when starting a new style of writing. Entering this semester I made sure to set a list of achievable goals when entering a new project. In the first writing reflection I told myself that I would focus on meeting all requirements in the prompt as well as enhancing my vocabulary. The second reflection I noted to be more specific and avoid using vague words. For example, I would consistently use the word “things”.
In addition, I wanted to keep my readers engaged throughout my whole essay and not just in the beginning. As for the third reflection, I targeted my final portfolio and time moving forward. My objectives are to showcase all my work and continue applying my strengths. Looking back, I have managed to both achieve and fail at my set goals. Reviewing my food memoir, I was able to say that I excelled all requirements. This included word count, pivotal moment, five senses, an abstract and appendix.
Adding to my success, I emphasized heavily during my skateboarding observations for project two. I was specific from the clothes they wore to the way the skateboarders would speak amongst each other. The last goal I accomplished was adding my writing projects and feedback into my website. Although, as much as I have fulfilled some goals there are others that I did not. I personally believe that my vocabulary did not improve as much as I wanted it to. There was still a lot of use of repetition throughout my writing.
According to my reflections this was an overall challenge I faced throughout the time spent in ENG 101. Lastly, I lacked effort in my concluding paragraphs resulting in a loss of attention of my audience. Editors continuously said to add more towards my conclusions and that it lacked attention. In this overall experience, I acquired new skills. I learned to manage my time, apply creativity and think critically. In my writing project one reflection, I said that setting aside time every day to revise and edit my draft helped me avoid feeling overwhelmed.
My second reflection mentioned that having that opportunity to have creative freedom allowed me to use many different writing techniques. Many people enjoyed the way I described an elote to a time machine. Back to reflection one and three I thought beyond the surface and analyzed from different perspectives, which challenged me to think critically. In the Future transferring these skills will help me succeed. For example, time management will allow me to stay on track and meet any future deadlines. Being creative will engage my audience and can help me stand out from the many students that a professor might have.
Lastly, thinking critically will be beneficial when withholding an argument. However, I look back and I do wish that I expanded in my reading. I felt that exposing myself to different writing styles and authors would have improved my writing, grammar and vocabulary. I have emphasized how reading different articles related to the prompt helped immensely when starting a new project but with five other classes it was quite difficult to find the time and energy. In conclusion, the hours spent in this English course has challenged and developed me into a better author, editor and reflector. My project reflections and assignments have shown me my many ups and downs.
This journey of Improving my writing process, setting goals, succeeding, failing and obtaining skills, has only proved that it has prepared me for future obstacles to come.
