ERIC (Education Resources Information Center) is an authoritative database of indexed and full-text education literature and resources. Sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences of the U.S. Department of Education, it is an essential tool for education researchers of all kinds. ERIC contains records and links to hundreds of thousands of full-text documents. It includes records for a variety of source types, including journal articles, books, conference papers, curriculum guides, dissertations and policy papers. Further, researchers can limit search results by education level such as Early Childhood Education as well as on the intended audience such as Counselors or Teachers.

ERIC also includes an education-specific thesaurus containing over 11,800 terms. ERICA is a rescue catalog that preserves over 500,000 Open Access publications originally hosted by the US Department of Education in the ERIC research repository. Following the defunding of ERIC on April 23, 2025, this project aims to prevent the loss of valuable educational research resources. The Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) is a long-standing digital library of education research and information sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences of the U.S. Department of Education. With its defunding, there is an imminent risk of losing access to hundreds of thousands of valuable educational research documents.

The PDFs in this catalog were rescued using the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine by crizzo, a volunteer for the Data Rescue Project. This preservation effort ensures continued access to important educational research despite the shutdown of the original repository. When you click on a publication ID link in the catalog, you will be redirected to the archived PDF in the Wayback Machine. The catalog provides a user-friendly interface to browse and search through the preserved publications. You can easily host your own copy of ERICA by cloning this repository, since it is just a static website. The repo includes:

ERIC contains more than 1.7 million records representing education research articles, reports, and books. The eric.ed.gov site is open for the public to use and has a lot of great resources. Because ERIC via Ebsco and ERIC via First Search is linked to other resources available through Rice University’s Fondren Library, you're more likely to find more results when using this version of ERIC. Still, In 2021, users conducted more than 23 million searches on the ERIC website and downloaded 9.6 million full-text articles from the full collection.

The ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) search engine is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education to provide extensive access to educational-related literature. ERIC provides coverage of open access journal articles, and some unpublished full-text documents on conferences, meetings, reports, etc. at no charge. This search-engine searches in both the Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE) for journal articles and Resources in Education (RIE) for ERIC documents. ERIC is covered from 1966 to present with monthly updates.

The library may be able to help you get access through interlibrary loan or through one of their databases.

In some cases, there may be a free, full-text option. In other cases obtaining the full text may require registration or a subscription. This means that the link that the publisher gave to ERIC at the time of publication broke. This often happens when publishers redesign their older websites.

The resulting copy is barely legible, and we have made efforts to re-scan these microfiche documents and restore them to an acceptable level of readability. The document can still be found on microfiche and obtained through interlibrary loan from a library maintaining the ERIC collection.
