Welcome to the College of Education at Slippery Rock University! Exciting Grant Opportunity for Aspiring Teachers in Partner School Districts: The College of Education at Slippery Rock University has been awarded a $600,000 grant through the initiative described in the official announcement from the Shapiro Administration:Supporting Pennsylvania Schools – Shapiro Administration Invests This grant supports paraprofessionals, emergency-certified teachers, and other school district employees who hold a qualifying bachelor's degree and seek to earn a master’s degree and Pennsylvania teacher certification in one of the following high-need... We are partnering with five school districts to launch this innovative apprenticeship program:Slippery Rock Area, Butler Area, Franklin Regional, Grove City Area, and Hampton Township. This program prepares students for careers teaching Social Studies / History in secondary schools.

Requirements for the Major in Secondary Education (7-12) include a combination of education courses and student teaching experiences that lead to certification for a state-approved teaching license. All candidates completing this program and student teaching are eligible to receive Pennsylvania certification after achieving a passing or qualifying score on Pennsylvania Department of Education required exam(s). If you are interested in teaching in another state, please contact the Department of Education in that state. Impact on Student Learning (SRU UG 2, 3, 5, 9) Content Knowledge in the Social Studies (SRU UG 2, 9) Effective Planning of Classroom-Based Instruction (SRU UG 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10)

Candidates' Knowledge, Skills, and Dispositions (SRU UG 4, 5, 7, 8, 9) Graduates of the Secondary Education/Foundations of Education programs at SRU develop the knowledge and skills required to succeed in today's changing classrooms in grades 4-8 and 7-12. Slippery Rock University's program in Middle-Level Education (4-8) prepares future teachers for upper elementary and middle grade classrooms in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the nation's schools. Students who complete the requirements for this program will earn Pennsylvania teacher certification in Middle Level Education. Graduates of this program are qualified to teach all subject areas in Grades 4, 5, and 6. Moreover, students select a content discipline in one following areas, which prepares them to teach in a 7th or 8th grade classroom:

SRU's program in Middle-Level Education offers students the opportunity to develop professional and personal competence by participating in experiences diverse settings and possible student teaching placements in both local and international settings. SRU's program in Secondary Education (7-12) prepares future teachers for teaching in 7th through 12th grade classrooms in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the nation's schools. Students who complete the requirements for this program will earn Pennsylvania teacher certification in one of the following areas: SRU's program in Secondary Education offers students the opportunity to develop professional and personal competence by participating in experiences in diverse settings and possible student teaching placements in both local and international settings.
