The NJ State Library’s (NJSL) Funding Information Center offers resources and training for individuals and nonprofit organizations looking for funding. NJSL has been a community member with Candid, formerly the Foundation Center, since 1974. Through our membership, we provide free, onsite access to Candid’s research databases: Provides detailed information on over 240,000 U.S. foundations, corporate giving programs, and grantmaking public charities, with links to financials and 990-PF tax returns. Gov. Phil Murphy announced last week that New Jersey has been approved for nearly $180 million through the Capital Project Fund. More than $34 million of this funding is approved for the State Library’s Community Center Digital Connect program — for constructing or improving buildings that directly support employment, education and health monitoring. Communities with critical needs were preselected and participated in a competitive grant process administered by the New Jersey State Library. “Our mission is to empower residents by providing community-based access to high-quality modern infrastructure, including broadband, which is essential for accessing critical services,” said State Librarian Jen Nelson. The New Jersey library community strives to fulfill the information needs of a vast and varied customer group.

The Per Capita State Aid (PCSA) program is the largest public library grant program administered by the NJ State Library (NJSL) and is the foundation of state support for public libraries. The program is authorized pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:74-3 et seq.
The first State Per Capita Aid Act was passed by the New Jersey Legislature in 1959. It established the principle of a partnership between local libraries and the State of New Jersey for the provision of quality library service through direct state financial support for public libraries. Its passage set a precedent that the State of New Jersey had a critical partnership role in providing quality library service for the residents of New Jersey.
