As a new grantseeker, you may have questions on the basics of grantseeking. This pathfinder has a variety of resources to introduce you to aspects of seeking grants. It will help you understand how to research potential funders, how to make sure you’ve planned your project well, how to communicate with them and how to write a good grant application. Grantseeking involves a continual process of planning, communications, submission, performance, reporting, and research to reach the goal line. Candid offers a growing digital collection of eBooks and audiobooks on social sector- and philanthropy-related topics, curated by Candid’s team of expert librarians. This free, public collection is available to anyone through Candid's OverDrive site and the Libby app*, and can be accessed remotely from any computer, smartphone, tablet, or e-reader.

At this free orientation, you will receive an introduction to Forefront Library, prospect research, and resources that support finding grants. Learn how to craft search queries with the assistance of our librarians. The workshop will provide a brief overview of the Library’s databases, print collection, and online research guides, as well as a deeper look at the Foundation Center’s database, Foundation Directory Online. Laptops are welcome and encouraged for hands-on experience. LibGuides are widely used by academic and special libraries, but also by public and school libraries, as well as archives. Research Guides are intended to address an audience with a particular and specific information need. They contain instructions, links, and other information meant to help users with a specific research context or task. In any of our subject guides you may find: Research Guides are also known as subject guides, course guides, or pathfinders This guide is designed to link the user to basic resources, including databases and Websites, for grants and funding to individuals.

Library staff can provide a brief overview of the Foundation Center's databases, but CANNOT answer questions about funding from specific government agencies or other providers. Forefront Library supports the nonprofit and philanthropic sector. This guide is offered as a courtesy. We recommend that you contact your school's financial aid office or library, your public library, your elected officials or applicable professional associations for additional information about funding opportunities. Your employer or union also may offer scholarships.
