Stan State Students currently have access to JSTOR and its various components through the CSU Stanislaus institution. This LibGuide will provide guidance on how to best utilize these components to find articles, primary sources, and images. The content covered in this LibGuide includes how to conduct various search strategies in JSTOR, how to use JSTOR's navigational features, and other useful information to best locate various resources using the tools available... Citations are a crucial part of the research process, as citing a source is a way of giving credit to other ideas that you used to develop your research.
A citation is a short way to identify a published work and it includes the information that your reader would need to find the source. Typically that consists of the author’s name, title of the work, publication date, publishing company, among other format-specific information. Citations can include primary and secondary sources. There are many citation styles, each has slightly different structures for how the source information is ordered and formatted. JSTOR provides auto-generated pre-formatted citations in MLA, APA, and Chicago styles. Citation style varies by academic discipline and within some disciplines, more than one style is common.
However, make sure you are consistent with a single style through your research project. Check with your instructor to determine what style to use for your specific course. We will periodically update these resources as the JSTOR platform continues to evolve. All of our guides are open and free, and Springshare library customers are welcome to copy our guides to their own LibGuides sites and customize them with library branding and additional information. JSTOR is a multidisciplinary database that holds scholarly content from 2,600 journals and 85,000 eBooks. Using the database ensures that you will find high quality sources for assignments. Once you complete your initial search, you can narrow down, or REFINE, your results.
