While doing research one day I started to type "positive effects of hip-hop", when I clicked "search" google auto search corrected the statement to "negative effects of hip-hop", this bothered me because as an... Whether it is listening to a song while in my car with a couple friends or when I am at a party with a hundred people I see the music lifting people up and... Although artists in the genres normally address the problems in their music with vulgar and explicit terminology, it does not mean it is because they simply wanted to use vulgar terms, but rather because... Once we look past the sometimes vulgar appearances of the music, we can see the messages that the artists are really trying to depict. The problem causing negative affects of the music is the way many people misinterpret the music. Specific groups such as teens and low income african american communities community have been centers of misinterpretation.

These groups are known to take the artist's messages out of context, which effects them negatively by giving them wrong ideas of relationships, drugs, sex, etc. When these listeners misinterpret the music they take the wrong messages from the music and apply those messages to their life, causing them to make wrong choices, treat people in an ill manner, and... While the music may only seem to have negative effects on listeners, the genres do have many positive aspects to them. In a study by Berry (1994) it was concluded that rap and hip-hop help "low income African American youth develop empowering beliefs that help them connect with their culture and develop positive identities". Artists can create anything they want to, with their own style, their own beats, their own beliefs, and it doesn't matter because this alone is why people started to enjoy hip-hop in the first... These people were now able Hip hop allowed people to have a sense of individualism but at the same time connect with their peers and share thoughts, opinions, and beliefs.

Even though we can find negative aspects of the music quite easily, if we look deeper and actually do some research we can see how the hip-hop culture is a way for youth to... We see some great examples of the positive effects of rap and hip-hop music through Chance the Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Kanye West, etc. These hip-hop and rap artists don't only do a great deal to give back to their community, but also share positive uplifting messages in their music. One of the best examples I have found is Chance the Rapper constantly going out of his way around Chicago (his home town) and committing random acts of kindness for others, and by the... The genres in themselves were created to bring together communities to better their situations, with this being said, rap and hip-hop artists have always tried to incorporate messages of peace, love and community. Another positive aspect of rap and hip-hop is the philanthropy work many artists do.

As I have stated before, these artist's communities mean everything to them, they are the people that made them who they are and they show their appreciation through starting organizations and charities, as well... Click here to add your own text and edit me. I’m a great place for you to tell a story and let your users know a little more about you. Through the inquiry process thus far I have become a much stronger advocate for contribution, however I still have much much more to learn about my topic. Learning about how to write inquiry has helped me to discover “that writing strategies that are effective for [me] in one context are often inappropriate and ineffective in another context in which [I] need... I have learned that the style of writing we had been taught throughout middle and high school isn't the best way to write about specific topics, and that different styles can fit better with...

I believe inquiry is the best style of writing for our digital article because it allows us not only to state what we know in relation to what we’re writing about but rather to... However, as stated in Concept 4 there are some practices that work in writing of all styles and contexts. One practice “such as writing multiple drafts… often [proves] effective regardless of the writing task or context”(Adler-Kassner, Wardle 2016), I have been taught to do this for papers and essays since I can remember... It allows me to get my ideas down and then decide what needs to be discarded and what needs to be expanded upon. This technique has already allowed for me to edit out large parts of my article and replace those parts with ideas that I thought would better explain how I am contributing and what I... I feel that my contribution and information is stated fairly clear throughout my digital article.

The readers that read my article however, may read my article and interpret it in a different way. Although while doing peer review in class, the “editor” of my work “did not share [my] attachment to the anticipated meaning and had only what the inscribed words [brought]; [he] provide[d] better measures of... The editor of my paper did not gain the exact messages I was trying to convey but what he had gained from my reading did align quite well with what I was attempting to... This gives me a sense of comfortability since he was the first person to read my article and gave me good feedback on my information and work. I believe that my information is fairly clearly stated but that I can clear it up a little more for readers within my discourse community to get the absolute most they can out of... A point made by Edward Burger (2012) really stuck out to me when he said “thinkers… take a tiny step in a new direction, almost immediately hit a dead end, learn from that misstep,...

This has helped bring my article to what it is now because all the times I have failed while writing my inquiry have led me to become a much better writer within inquiry and... For instance, in the first version of my article I had two pages that failed to fully show what I was trying to do, so I made two more pages and expanded upon what... Another way of becoming a better writer is to practice. Everybody knows the saying “practice makes perfect” but through concept 4 we find that this is not necessarily true. Practice in writing cannot make one perfect because there is no such thing as perfection in writing. While practice cannot make perfect it can “focus on the whole of a composing process or on different aspects of composing: inventing, researching, drafting, revising, sharing, editing, and publishing.” Practicing writing inquiry mainly involves...

We have gone through and focused attention on many of the aspects and this helps because instead of writing a full paper we can sit down and look at specific parts of our writings... Revision has been the second biggest factor in the completion of my article after the actual writing itself. Revision is the reason for all of my thoughts being written out completely, allowing me to use my previous work to make it sound better, be more clear, and more formal. I still need to revise much more of my article, as it is close to being done but still has much more that can be clarified and depicted better. Through revising I have seen that I already have changed much of the substance in my initial version. I can see how I have used my assessment skills to assess what information I need to keep, add, or delete in my article.

After assessing my article again I have found more areas that I need to further complete before my final article is complete. Because I am writing in a discourse community of popular music on the topic of hip-hop I feel that language barriers don't really make a large difference in my article. Most of the popular discourse community that deals with hip-hop is generally an english speaking population which gives me reason to believe that my article should be understood by just about all the readers... I believe by this point in my writing process I had started to "Demonstrate flexible strategies for drafting, reviewing, collaborating, revising, rewriting, rereading, and editing". The peer review helped me to do these things by having someone review my draft, which gave me ideas of how to revise, rewrite, and edit my digital article. I recognized the "social interactions" by critically reading my peer's work.

My peer's feedback on my work helped me to better understand what I could do in order to give the reader a clearer, better idea of what I am writing about. In this part of the writing process I was able to use my peer's ideas on my work to further align myself with my goals and objectives. This made me much more aware of how other people tend to perceive my work and using this awareness, I have revised, reworked, and rewritten much of my digital article."Recognize and employ the social... Ever since I have started writing, brainstorming has been the first step to all my assignments. Although I had used brainstorming prior to this class, I never thought about why I did so. Writing inquiry has taught me that in order to start writing one must think about the context, discourse community, and style of writing they are writing for.

Brainstorming helped me a lot with this because it allows us to get our ideas down on paper so that through the rest of the writing process we have a platform that we can... In the Metaconcept reading we are told that writing "is an activity in which individuals and groups engage". The in-class peer review is a perfect example of this. While drafting my first version of my article I would not have said that writing is an activity in which we engage with others because I was in my room by myself writing. Once we had turned in version one and done the peer review I saw writing really is a way to engage with others; not only for help in writing but rather to learn new... I found that I was engaged with others by reviewing their writing, as well as enjoying learning more about what the others had to say.

So not only is writing "an activity in which individuals and groups engage" but also an activity that promotes this engagement in itself. Although we see how this assignment pertains to ones composing process, we also see how this assignment can relate to other SLO's such as critical reading, critical reflection, and rhetorical knowledge. "interpretation and evaluation of received responses" played a large role in my writing of this assignment. Using the feedback from the in-class peer review and the feedback of many other friends and peers outside of class, I "review[ed] ... revise[d], [rewrote], [reread], and edit[ed]" my first draft of my article. These steps in the process have helped my development as a writer by learning to work with the ideas of others to form my own stance on my topic as well as to make...

Subconcept 4.2 and 4.3 (as read and reflected upon in studio 4) explain how "failure can be an important part of writing development " and how "learning to write effectively requires different kinds of... I have spent hour after hour writing my inquiry using different practices, and all my effort. On many occasions I have reflected upon my previous writing and found areas of failure. These areas of failure have been some of the most crucial points in my writing process. Although we as humans think of failure as something that is sad and disappointing, failure is often the root of improvement. Once we are able to recognize our failures as writers we are able to use those failures as a basis in which we can build on and learn from.

When practicing we are bound to fail. This is the reason for why we practice in the first place; so that when the time comes to write a paper or assignment, we know what to do and what not to do. We also see how through these assignments our rhetorical knowledge is expanded. After reading Concept 2, I found that the reading was actually a text that allowed for me to "inquire, learn, and discover" how to become a better writer. When I first looked at the Module 7.5 I had no idea what I was doing since I was no longer simply summarizing articles. I now had to give my own ideas on the reading and relate it to my development as a writer.

This was very unfamiliar to me and I did struggle a bit with this idea. As I continued to read I found myself learning great deals of information on how to become a better writer and actually becoming a better writer as I wrote about it. I was even able to see how my writing was improving by writing about the concept I was critically reading; incorporating the subconcepts into my writing about the same subconcepts.
