In the last five years, the Center for American Civics has developed a suite of more than 500 lessons for learners at all levels on American Civics teaching constitutional principles and history to hundreds... Our mission is to provide resources and training in American civics, especially related to American constitutionalism, to teachers, students and other learners. Because we are housed within the School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership (SCETL) at Arizona State University, we have access to one of the strongest contingents of faculty specializing in American constitutionalism...

We seek to fulfill our mission through four primary approaches: Empowering Educators: Our teacher development workshops provide K-12 educators, especially in Arizona, with immersive training in American constitutionalism and civics. These also include discussion of comparative political systems, bringing in speakers or deploying resources from Victims of Communism to help students understand the difference between that ideology and America’s free institutions. Civics in a Year is a fast-paced podcast series that delivers essential civic knowledge in just 10 minutes per episode. To celebrate America 250, we’ll explore 250 key questions, from the founding documents and branches of government to civil liberties, elections, and public participation. Rooted in the Civic Literacy Curriculum from the Center for American Civics at Arizona State University, this series is a collaborative project supported by the School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership.

Each episode is designed to spark curiosity, strengthen constitutional understanding, and encourage active citizenship. Whether you're a student, educator, or lifelong learner, Civics in a Year will guide you through the building blocks of American democracy, one question at a time. We support scholars, teachers, and students in their efforts to understand and improve American political society. We are nonpartisan and inter-ideological, focused on pursuing knowledge and practicing truth as common goods for American politics and culture. (The Center for American Civics was formerly known as the Center for Political Thought and Leadership and merged with the Joe Foss Institute in 2019). The Center for American Civics is ever-growing and is comprised of like-minded individuals searching for ways to spread civic education and ongoing learning at every stage of life.

Our center brings together scholars, thought leaders, and community members throughout South Carolina and beyond to address critical challenges facing our state and nation. Through events, publications and academic programs, we will help South Carolina students and community members develop the skills required for civic leadership. We are led by USC faculty and a board of nationally known advisors. Strengthening civic education and public discourse in South Carolina and beyond.
