Modulo develops a unique learning plan for every family based on their child’s interests, how they thrive as a learner and family priorities such as learning goals (STEAM/Project-based learning), schedule, cost and screen time. No homeschooling program looks the same and each is constantly evolving to ensure every family thrives.

We support families with children ages zero through the end of high school and through the college admissions cycle to make sure children are thriving at every stage. Families can join when their kids are 6, 12 or 19. When students learn 1-1, at the right pace for them or independently with materials that ensure they master one concept before moving on to the next, they learn better. Benjamin Bloom found that 1-1 instruction results in learning that is 2 standard deviations higher than classroom instruction. For curriculum, we favor mastery-based materials. And that is regardless of whether the person instructing is a parent, caregiver or teacher.

At Modulo, we vet our educational resources to be mastery-based and encourage 1-1 instruction with students. Certainly, not every subject needs to be taught 1-1, and some (such as theater, foreign language, creative writing) can benefit greatly from group work and collaboration. Additionally, by bringing all a student’s teachers/caregivers/collaborators together in one classroom, it’s our aim to flip the teacher/student ratio from 1:30 to 30:1 ! Modulo is a homeschool program focused on healthy socialization. We have our own community and support families in finding nearby friends and joining or starting local groups. Play and Collaboration is vital to intellectual development with peers who share their interests and talents.

Minecraft Club with Elvin is a fun, social space where K–5 students build, play, and collaborate on a private Minecraft Bedrock server. Each session includes creative team-based challenges, like scavenger hunts and obstacle courses, designed to foster communication, problem-solving, and friendship. Kids also enjoy interactive activities like yoga, art prompts, and social games, making this a dynamic and engaging club for young Minecraft enthusiasts. Facilitated by Elvin, a trained educator with a background in sociology, the club also places strong emphasis on community-building and restorative practices. Children help co-create expectations for respectful behavior, and when conflicts arise, they’re addressed through playful but meaningful systems like in-game “court” sessions where students learn accountability, fairness, and resolution. Offline elements—like group games, yoga, and reflection circles—are woven in to balance screen time and support a holistic learning experience.

Altogether, Minecraft Club nurtures not just digital literacy and creativity, but also the social and emotional foundations children need to thrive both online and offline. Solving that gave her the idea to found her first company, a marketplace for micro-schools.

Then, the pandemic school closures happened, leading to an extraordinary research opportunity. A lot of families needed help and guidance, and Manisha talked to hundreds of homeschoolers, and explored a lot of Facebook groups to see what kind of questions and needs people had. By listening to as many people as possible, Modulo started to take shape as a tool to help families design the ideal educational experience for their children. Modulo wanted to help families impacted by school closures, but didn't have time to set up their own non-profit. So, they joined Open Collective Foundation, which provided the company with 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsorship.
