This document describes how to configure Oracle Identity Cloud Service to provide Single Sign-On (SSO) for Instructure Canvas LMS using SAML. The Instructure Canvas LMS an easy-to-use, cloud-based Learning Management System (LMS) that connects all the digital tools and resources teachers use into one simple place. Instructure Canvas LMS integrates seamlessly with hundreds of apps, empowering teachers and students with countless tools to make teaching and learning easier. After integrating Instructure Canvas LMS with Oracle Identity Cloud Service: Use this section to register and activate the Instructure Canvas LMS app, and then assign users to the app. A domain name is required before you can register and activate the Instructure Canvas LMS app.

You obtain that domain name from Instructure Canvas LMS. If you're an educator or student at a school that uses Canvas, search for your school here and tap the link to access the login page. If you're a teacher, student, or parent using a free (non-school-associated) Canvas account, log in here. Make sure that your free account is for canvas.instructure.com or k12.instructure.com. The Instructure Bridge is a learning solution that helps make your workforce smarter and productive. After integrating Instructure Bridge with Oracle Identity Cloud Service: Use this section to register and activate the Instructure Bridge app, and then assign users to the app. A domain name is required before you can register and activate the Instructure Bridge app. You obtain that domain name from Instructure Bridge. How to obtain and use the Access Token (JWT)

If you are an Institution: make sure that you have generated your ClientID and Secret for institutional use on the Identity Service page. If you are a Partner of Instructure: make sure that you have received your ClientID and Secret from your Institution. Keep your ClientID and Secret in a safe place! Do not share with anyone else! Using the ClientID and Secret you are ready to request for an access token. The access token is a JSON Web Token, that grants access to the targeted Instructure service.

This is a short lived token, it needs to be renewed periodically. Typically expires in one hour.
