This townhouse required a complete face lift, reworking the Principal Bath, opening up the enclosed stairwell and completing the basement.
The existing fireplace was removed and replaced with a contemporary marble clad linear fireplace. The drywall enclosed stairwell was opened up with a floating staircase. To mitigate the feeling of the low ceiling in the basement, a reflective silver corrugated tin ceiling was installed, and a gym was added. The result is a rich, understated and current interior. A 1980’s tract house with low ceilings, narrow hallways and the typical small, enclosed Living Room/Dining Room/Kitchen was very dated. The kitchen was under-scaled for the house and storage was at a premium.

This postage stamp war-time home had an ineffective layout with the entry centred on the façade. On entering, one stepped right into the middle of the Kitchen and Dining room from the front door. There was no storage and the floor plan was bisected by a wood burning stove. The staircase landing had a column in the middle of it making egress awkward. The plan was flipped 180 degrees to create defined, functional spaces and to consolidate traffic flow.
The new plan is perfect for this young, growing family.
