Insta360, the world’s best-selling 360 camera brand, is thrilled to announce Insta360 X5, its latest flagship camera. Combining groundbreaking image quality, rugged durability, and AI-powered ease of use, X5 sets a new benchmark for what 360 cameras can achieve. X5's larger 1/1.28" sensors and lightning-fast Triple AI Chip system deliver a dramatic leap in image quality across all resolutions, including stunning 8K30fps 360 video. With PureVideo, a new AI-powered low-light mode, X5 achieves crisp, cinematic footage in challenging lighting. Built for adventure, this is the toughest 360 camera ever. Its lenses are crafted from a new ultra-durable glass, while a first-of-its-kind replaceable lens system sets a new standard for the industry, allowing you to swap out damaged lenses on the go.

Further hardware upgrades like a built-in wind guard, extended 3-hour battery life, and waterproofing to 49ft, make X5 the ultimate companion for active creators. From shooting to sharing, X5 makes 360 creation effortless. The all-new InstaFrame Mode simultaneously captures an auto-framed, ready-to-share flat video and a full 360 video to fine-tune later. The Insta360 app has undergone a transformation with more intuitive editing tools, and X5 pairs with the Insta360+ cloud service, where you can instantly share 360 clips, edit on the cloud, and more. "X5 redefines 360 cameras by solving creators' real challenges," said JK Liu, Insta360's Founder. The new X5 camera will retail for £519.99 in the UK (€589.99, $549.99), and it shoots in resolutions up to 8K. Insta360 claims it’s “the smartest, toughest 360° camera ever made”. So what’s new? The X5 follows the form factor of its predecessors, with a chunky body sporting a lens at the top on each side to capture a full 360° image. A lot has changed though. From a practical point of view perhaps the most welcome update is that the two lens domes are now replaceable.

Because they stand proud of the body – and need to in order to get a full 360° image – the lenses are susceptible to damage. For example, from a heavy-handed cyclist throwing them into a frame bag that also contains a sharp-edged multitool. Not that we’d have any first-hand experience, of course. Anyway, Insta360 has used a new, more durable, glass for the lens but the fact that it can now be replaced is a big plus. Lens guards are also available for an extra level of protection. Inside the camera Insta360 is using new 1/1.28” sensors nearly half as big again as the ones used in the X4.

That has allowed a new maximum resolution of 8K, up from 5.7K, at up to 30 frames per second. The camera is actually sampling down from a full resolution of 11K, so 8K isn’t pushing the limits of the sensors, and you can also use the X5 in single-lens mode and shoot standard... Active HDR shooting is available up to 5.7K/60fps for more detail in sunny conditions. Last year, Insta360 unveiled its first 8K 360° camera, the X4. Its successor, the Insta360 X5, brings larger image sensors, an AI-powered low-light mode, better water resistance and a larger battery. An important change this generation makes the lenses replaceable, so a scratched lens is now a $30 fix you can do at home.

The X5 features 1/1.28” sensors, which are 144% larger than the 1/2” sensors of the X3 and X4. This allows them to capture more light. PureVideo is AI-based noise reduction and dynamic range optimization for low-light shooting. Also, Active HDR now works up to 5.7K 60fps. The new camera uses a Triple AI Chip system consisting of one 5nm AI Chip and two Pro Imaging chips. In total, it has 140% more computing power than the previous model.

The video recording modes are mostly the same as on the X4. The top mode is 8K at 30fps with 60fps available at 5.7K resolution. One improvement is that you can get 120fps at 4K resolution (up from 100fps on the X4). PureVideo works up to 8K at 30fps and 5.7K also at 30fps (not 60fps). For those that just want a quick clip to post on social media, the new InstaFrame records two videos. The first is one you can post immediately – it’s a flat video facing a fixed direction or with automatic tracking that keeps you in the center of the frame.

The second is a full 360° video (up to 5.7K 30fps) that you can manually re-frame later when you have more time. The new camera delivers better 360° video in every way When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. Here’s how it works. Insta360 has officially unveiled the Insta360 X5, the latest iteration in its acclaimed X-series, bringing substantial enhancements to 360-degree video recording. Building upon the foundation of the Insta360 X4, the X5 introduces a suite of features aimed at both professional creators and enthusiasts.

The headliner is the 1/1.28-inch sensor, a significant increase from the X4's 1/2-inch sensor. In recent years the Insta360 has become the go-to action camera for pilots. Few launches are without someone sporting one – while the device’s unique follow-cam view has become almost the norm on social media. Now the Shenzhen based company has unveiled a new edition – the X5, which they’re claiming is the “smartest, toughest 360º ever made”. An update on the X4, the X5 has a sensor that’s 144% larger than its predecessor. It has a better build quality and longer battery life – Insta360 say the battery supports up to 185 minutes of recording in 5.7K, using the power-saving endurance mode.

It can also fast charge from 0 to 80% in 20 minutes. Video quality comes through the X5’s 1/1.28 inch sensor (compared to the X4’s 1/2-inch sensor) and a triple AI Chip system enabling it to shoot 8K 30fps 360° video. There is also an AI-powered low-light mode to achieve “crisp footage in challenging lighting”. The X5 has a waterproof rating of IP68, which is equivalent to 15m underwater. Other features include a built in wind guard that silences wind interference. Insta360 has announced the X5 – it's tougher, it's better in low light, and it's smarter (obviously).

More importantly, it's on sale. What can GoPro do about that? When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. Here’s how it works. Insta360's announcement of the new X5 360-degree camera is a massive step, not just because it's the company's best yet – but because it propels the company further into the lead in this massively... The X5 brings bigger imaging sensors for better low light, more rugged design, and new "Triple AI Chip" smarts which, in practical terms, means AI can identify events for quicker auto editing and 'PureVideo'... Insta360 has just released a new flagship camera, the X5, which is built on the X4’s foundation but with several notable changes.

New features include a larger 1/1.28″ sensor, a longer-lasting battery, a user-replaceable lens system, and a new InstaFrame mode that records both a full 360° video and a flat version for quick viewing. It’s also rugged and waterproof to 15m (49ft), so let’s take a look at the details! You have tons of options as far as action cameras go, but Insta360's cameras remain solid for a few reasons. Now, the Insta360 X5 is finally here, and it's the toughest we've seen to date from the company. Insta360 has just announced its new flagship 360° camera, the Insta360 X5. And it's a pretty awesome product.

The X5 features larger 1/1.28-inch sensors compared to the previous X4 model—according to Insta360, these larger sensors, combined with a new processing system dubbed the "Triple AI Chip" (composed of one 5nm AI chip... The camera itself supports 360° video recording at up to 8K resolution at 30 frames per second (fps). It also offers 5.7K resolution at up to 60fps and 4K resolution at up to 120fps. A new "PureVideo" mode utilizes AI-based processing for noise reduction and dynamic range optimization specifically for low-light shooting scenarios. The camera's HDR capabilities have been updated to support 5.7K at 60fps. And for still photography, the X5 can capture approximately 72-megapixel (11904x5952) 360° photos.

We have a first here, and it's the fact that we now have user-replaceable lenses. The lenses themselves are made from a new, more scratch-resistant glass formulation, so you should go more time between lenses without having to replace them. If a lens is damaged and you do need to replace it, though, you can purchase a Replacement Lens Kit and swap the lens module yourself. Swapping out the lenses on the X4 or previous models wasn't impossible, but you did need a certain degree of knowhow in order to not break the whole camera. With the X5, this step should be way, way easier. The X5 features an IP68 rating, allowing it to be submerged in water up to 49 feet (15 meters) without a separate dive case.
