Bangkok, 22 June 2023 – The United Nations report on greenwashing was released at COP27. Entitled ‘Integrity Matters: Net Zero Commitments by Business, Financial Institutions, Cities and Regions’, the report was issued by a working group formally known as the High-Level Expert Group on the Net Zero Emissions Commitments... It offers a sharp rebuke to companies that claim to be tackling climate change without actually doing the work and sees the launch of a major crackdown on corporate greenwashing around Net Zero claims... The report warns these could undermine efforts to deliver the ambitions on the Paris Agreement by reducing emissions in line with 1.5C minimum target-setting. The report outlines key recommendations to ensure non-state actors are actively working towards decarbonization. It offers a roadmap to prevent Net Zero from being undermined by false claims, ambiguity or greenwashing, providing 10 pointed recommendations for corporates and other ‘non-state actors’ like cities and investors to provide a... กรุงเทพธุรกิจศุภกร เอกชัยไพบูลย์ฝ่ายพัฒนาธุรกิจเพื่อความยั่งยืน 1ตลาดหลักทรัพย์แห่งประเทศไทย การฟอกเขียวธุรกิจ หรือ Green Washing คือ การเปิดเผยข้อมูลหรือข้อความที่แสดงความเป็นมิตรต่อสังคมและ/หรือสิ่งแวดล้อมของธุรกิจที่เกินความเป็นจริง เพื่อหวังจะให้ธุรกิจสามารถขายของหรือสร้างกำไรบนความกังวลที่เพิ่มขึ้นเกี่ยวกับปัญหาสังคมและสิ่งแวดล้อม ผมเชื่อว่าผู้บริโภคยุคนี้รับรู้ได้ว่าข้อมูลแบบไหนที่เน้นขายบนความรู้สึกคนมากเกินไป และเมื่อบริษัทประพฤติไม่เหมาะสมหรือสร้างความเดือดร้อนให้ผู้มีส่วนได้เสีย เช่น การรั่วไหลของน้ำมันใน Deepwater Horizon ของ BP หรือเรื่องอื้อฉาวเกี่ยวกับการรายงานข้อมูลคาร์บอนและการปล่อยมลพิษของ Volkswagen ก็ทำให้เห็นแล้วว่า Green Wash เป็นความเสี่ยงที่ลบทุกความเชื่อมั่นจากธุรกิจ จนสร้างอิมแพคต่อเงินในกระเป๋าบริษัท สอดคล้องกับงานสำรวจของ Harvard Business Review (HBR)[1] ที่แสดงให้เห็นว่าผู้มีส่วนได้เสียจะลงโทษธุรกิจโดยการไม่ลงทุนหรือไม่ซื้อสินค้า และตีตราบริษัทนั้นว่าเป็นธุรกิจ Green Washing หากบริษัทไม่สามารถปฏิบัติตามนโยบายและเป้าหมายที่สัญญาไว้ไม่ว่าด้วยเหตุผลใดก็ตาม ส่งผลเสียต่อทัศนคติทางสังคมที่มีต่อสินค้าและบริการของบริษัทในระยะยาว ในมิติการลงทุน ข้อมูล ESG ไม่ใช่ผงซักฟอกธุรกิจให้ขาวสะอาดใส ที่ทำให้ท่านมั่นใจว่าธุรกิจเก่ง ดี และพร้อมที่จะเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในพอร์ตการลงทุนของท่าน การที่ทุกฝ่ายลุกขึ้นมาบอกให้ธุรกิจก็ต้องเปิดเผยข้อมูลที่เป็นด้านบวกและลบอย่างสมดุล โดยไม่มีกระบวนการตรวจสอบอย่างเป็นกลาง ยิ่งทับถมปัญหาการใช้ข้อมูล ESG ในการฟอกธุรกิจ ขณะที่คนเปิดเผยข้อมูลก็มองเป็นดาบสองคม เพราะถ้าเปิดข้อมูลที่ลบเกินไป คนก็ไม่กล้าลงทุนเพราะเสี่ยงสูง แต่ถ้าเปิดข้อมูลที่เป็นบวกเกินไป คนก็ไม่กล้าลงทุนอีกเพราะเห็นข้อมูลแค่ด้านเดียว มิหนำซ้ำการมีกระบวนการตรวจสอบทำให้ต้นทุนธุรกิจสูงขึ้นไปอีก ดังนั้น ถ้าต้องเลือก ธุรกิจก็จะเปิดเผยข้อมูลเท่าที่ทำได้ และรายงานแบบ propaganda “โปร ปะ กัน (โดน) ด่า” มากกว่า เราต้องมาขบคิดกันว่าจะจัดการปัญหา Green Washing แบบไหนที่ตอบโจทย์ทั้งธุรกิจและผู้บริโภคข้อมูล ผมอ่านแนวทางหลีกเลี่ยงปัญหาเบื้องต้น พบว่ามีหลากหลายวิธี เช่น การอ้างสิทธิ์ในสินค้าที่เป็นมิตรต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม ควรตรวจสอบข้อมูลย้อนกลับของที่มาสินค้าได้ด้วย หรือบริษัทควรพิสูจน์ได้ว่าข้อมูลของสินค้า บริการ หรือการดำเนินธุรกิจมีหน่วยงานหรือแหล่งข้อมูลที่น่าเชื่อถือเป็นผู้รับรองข้อมูลที่เป็นวิชาการ เป็นต้น
