AONTAS believes in creating a more equitable lifelong learning system in Ireland where all learners, particularly in adult and community education can thrive. Given the impact of the ongoing pandemic on mental health, social isolation and (un)employment among many other areas of life, more and more people are considering returning to education to improve their overall wellbeing... AONTAS provides a free information and referral service as part of the European Agenda for Adult Learning project ‘Adult and Community Education: Supported Learner Pathways 2020-2021’.

The PPN is the 'go to' for all local authorities who wish to benefit from community and voluntary expertise in their area. In February 2023, the Department of Rural and Community Development revealed new national branding for the Public Participation Networks.

AONTAS, the National Adult Learning Organisation in Ireland, has a new website for learners wanting to know how they can build on what they have learned and take their next learning step. One Step Up: Find your Learning Pathway provides information on courses, funding support and contact details to help adults find future learning and training options, and access the support available to them. The service includes a freephone number, an information booklet and learners’ stories on video – demonstrating some successful pathways followed. Click here for more information.

This booklet has been published by AONTAS, the National Adult Learning Organisation in Ireland, as part of the One Step Up project. One Step Up is funded with the support of the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union and co-financed by the Department of Education and Skills through SOLAS, the Further Education and Training Authority. This project is managed by AONTAS who have been assigned the role of National Co-ordinator for the implementation of the European Agenda for Adult Learning (EAAL). It is an excellent resource for any individual who is looking to explore lifelong learning opportunities in Ireland, upskilling or returning to education for the purpose of employment. It provides a comprehensive range of information on the adult education and further education and training sector in Ireland breaking down contact information and explanations under relevant and appropriate questions. The simple English and clear, engaging design, is descriptive, informative and targetted under relevant headings such as community education, training and third level.

Having worked with, represented, and advocated for the rights of adult learners for 50 years, we have heard from learners that knowing where to find information can be a challenge. The One Step Up Information and Referral Service is a one-stop-shop where you can find out everything you need to know about returning to learning. It is a free and easy-to-use service that helps adults discover their education and training options.

Whether you’re looking to acquire new skills, achieve qualifications, gain employment, build self-confidence or meet new people, we can help you find the pathway that’s right for you. One Step Up includes a website, Freephone Helpline (1800 303 696) and a detailed information booklet which provides you with a breakdown of different education options, support services and relevant contacts. The new website has a number of free and unique features to support adults back into education, such as the Events Calendar for finding upcoming information events and open days happening near you. Other fantastic features include Learner Stories where you can hear from learners about the value of returning to education and a Frequently Asked Questions section to guide you to the information you need. AONTAS is inviting adult and community educators to attend the Storytelling for Connecting Communities training on April 7th. This free, full-day training is designed to support educators in fostering empathy and social cohesion within their communities. Further details can be found below and in the attached document. Developed specifically for community education providers, this training equips educators and professionals with storytelling techniques that promote understanding and connection.
