Zohran Mamdani has barely ever held a job, admitted he’s a nepo baby and has no experience in local government, The Post has learned. New York City Mayor candidate Mamdani – who has lived most of his life in subsidized housing – failed in his attempts to be a rapper, musician and managing previous political campaigns. An analysis of the 33-year-old’s work history shows he has been employed for only approximately three years in the time between graduating college in 2014 and being elected to the New York State Assembly... Behind the shiny social media posts of the progressive upstart there is little substance and no proof of success, critics point out. “What does this guy know?” said political strategist Hank Sheinkopf. “He’s a make believe character who has no idea how the city works, how to run a jail, how to run a subway system and the biggest sanitation department in the country.

Zohran Mamdani, a young progressive candidate, made headlines recently after his primary win in the mayoral race for NY. The Indian-American assemblyman secured the Democratic nomination after a remarkable political upset. Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist, proclaimed victory in the party's primary on Tuesday, overcoming his opponent and political veteran Andrew Cuomo. The latter was the former state governor. The 33-year-old political figure hails from a privileged background, with his mother being a renowned film director and his father being an academic and author.
As per a Forbes report, Zohran Mamdani's estimated net worth is $200,000 in 2025. Zohran does not possess a car and resides in a rented apartment. A few acres of property in his home country of Uganda, which he bought at least ten years ago, was the only significant asset that the assemblyman disclosed in his financial report. Andrew Cuomo, his opponent, has an estimated wealth of roughly $10 million, as reported by Forbes, while Mamdani's assessed net worth hovers around $200,000. By Nicholas Fandos, Emma G. For the very biggest decisions in his run for mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani typically relies on just two trusted advisers. One is 26. The other is 34. His plans for free buses and policing were written with the help of other policy aides who, like him, cut their teeth in the Democratic Socialists of America. And until recently, few of the people closest to him had ever worked in city government. If a politician’s inner circle reflects the kind of government he or she would create if elected, then the group around Mr.
Mamdani, a 33-year-old assemblyman and the Democratic nominee, foreshadows a very different City Hall from previous mayors. NEW YORK − Following his shocking upset to the Democratic establishment, New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani is reaching out to skeptics before taking office. After winning on a progressive platform to address affordability in the nation’s largest city, the democratic socialist has continued to mend fences with powerful figures to his right. Mamdani, 34, takes office on Jan. 1, and he appears to to be trying to address concerns around his age, lack of experience, and a progressive leading the city, with a transition filled with veterans of past City Halls and... And he's backing Hakeem Jeffries, Nancy Pelosi's handpicked successor, against challenge from the left.
He did make one divisive comment, taking a shot at pro-Israel activity, but subsequently condemned phrases ushered by pro-Palestinian protesters. Sebastian Leon Martinez had pounded the pavement for New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani from frigid 23-degree cold snaps in January to the 100-degree day in June when the young democratic socialist stunned... That night, Martinez, a 20-year-old NYU student, found himself “sweaty, laughing, incredibly tired” at Mamdani’s victory party in Queens. It was a “monumental” moment, Martinez told me a week later. “A lot of people around me were crying and laughing,” he recalled. “Talking about how we’ve changed the political system, not only in New York City, but probably for the entire Democratic Party in the country.”
But as the 33-year-old candidate’s supporters cheered Mamdani’s win, business titans from Wall Street to Silicon Valley slid into panic mode at the thought of a socialist running New York City. Hedge fund billionaire Daniel Loeb warned of a “hot commie summer” in a post on X. Fellow billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman pledged to bankroll any New York City mayoral candidate capable of defeating Mamdani. Is Gen Z rejecting capitalism outright, some wondered, as their millennial counterparts tried to do with the Occupy Wall Street movement in 2011? Could Mamdani’s win spark a full embrace of socialism by the next generation, fulfilling dire predictions about the imminent demise of “late capitalism”? In a word: no.
That’s what I heard in a series of conversations with members of Gen Z and those who study them in the business and political spheres. Most scoffed at the notion that young people are rejecting capitalism on a large scale, or planning any kind of a revolution.
