I want to show feeling and emotion in all my characters, landscapes and scenes. I believe that one of the most important aspects of art is the connection with the viewer. I try to do this through illustrative techniques anyway, but I also have been teaching myself how to animate as this is obviously one of the best ways to make art move! I have used Photoshop Frame animation to create movement in my illustrations.

These are my first ever attempts at animating and despite is being incredibly simple, it definitely gives the image a sense of life. I love to use paint in my work. I enjoy the different textures I can make with it and the control I have over its consistency. I generally use acrylic because I prefer the feel of it, but do use water colour and oils too. My painting practice explores the materiality of paint itself, existing at the intersection of abstraction and representation. I’m drawn to the tension between building up and breaking down, capturing a sense of flux and transformation on the surface.

I investigate themes of human impact on the environment, often evoking architectural forms and geometric structures. My work reflects a constant state of transition, where solid shapes and fragmented textures coexist, inviting viewers to consider the balance between creation and decay. This online painting workshop is composed of lessons that I hope will encourage you to explore your own unique relationship with visual art.

They are intended to help you to develop your own unique way of creating paintings to express your imagination, intuition, and powers of observation. In these lessons, you will create representational and abstract paintings that will open new creative paths to explore your personal aesthetic.

These exercises will include color theory, cool perspective, brush techniques, acrylic and oil paint properties and how to create basic skin tones, and color composition. The exercises and lessons can help the experienced artist and the beginner develop new or improved painting techniques. Shane Hansen - NZ Art, Pattern, Colour + Shape Colour Mixing, Painting Techniques, Sketching Shane Hansen is a local (Tutukaka) New Zealand artist who is famous for his large abstracted paintings of birds, and native New Zealand Fauna and Flora. We will use Shane tenses colour palette and his use of strong line and extraction to create our own beautiful New Zealand bird paintings.
