Hello! Kettlon here wishing you a happy new year and what to expect within the next week or so. Pokémon Wiki, formerly known as The Pokémon Wiki and The Pokémon Encyclopedia, is a Pokémon-centered wiki hosted on the wiki-farm Fandom (originally called Wikia). It's affiliated with Korean Pokémon Wiki.
Pokémon Wiki was created in January 2005 by Jellochuu, who is no longer an active member of the wiki. Over the course of its history, the wiki has gone through a number of logo changes and a name change. It currently has over 10,000 articles on various aspects of the Pokémon franchise. After discussion among users, the Pokémon Wiki was split, with many users leaving Fandom to create a new wiki under Curse servers in association with Marriland, called Marriland Wiki. This fork led to another Pokémon-centered wiki being formed. Other users stayed on the Fandom-hosted wiki, and with the new wiki, users had a choice to either stay on the Fandom-hosted wiki or move to the Marriland Wiki, however some of the administrators...
During this time, Pokémon Wiki went through a revamp in October-November 2014 and received a new logo. Six years later, Gamepedia was acquired by Fandom themselves, bringing Marriland Wiki (now called Azurilland Wiki) back under Fandom's ownership. In a process that took two years, on November 30, 2020 the wikis were eventually merged once again, unifying the community once more. We have 60,374 articles on a range of Pokémon-related topics. Pokémon (ポケモン, Pokemon?), shortened from Pocket Monster (ポケットモンスター, Poketto Monsutaa?), are a group of fantastical monsters who are the central focus and main feature of the Pokémon franchise. Pokémon are found all over the Pokémon World, and their habitat varies depending on the species, much like creatures in the real world. There are currently 1,025 documented species of Pokémon based on the nine generations of games so far (with more yet to be discovered as always). On the franchise's debut with Pocket Monsters Red and Pocket Monsters Green (or Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version), however, there were only 151.
One particular Pokémon, Pikachu, is the series' mascot. Pokémon take from a wide variety of inspirations including animals, plants, mythological creatures, and objects. Rattata resembles a rat, while most others take more unusual forms, such as Exeggutor, which resembles a coconut tree with animal facial features and feet. Although most Pokémon look and act like animals, others share no resemblance to any of such creatures, plants, or fungi, and a few even have machine-like forms, such as Registeel. Some Pokémon even resemble humans, such as Mr. Mime and Jynx.
The most powerful types of Pokémon are Legendary Pokémon and Mythical Pokémon such as Lugia or Jirachi, who are usually the subject of myths and urban legends within the Pokémon World. Each Pokémon has an elemental type, which affects their attacks, abilities, and weaknesses. For example, Pikachu, being an Electric Pokémon, specializes in electrical attacks, which are effective against both Flying and Water Pokémon, but in turn are weak against Grass Pokémon and ineffective against Ground Pokémon. Each Pokémon has unique stats and characteristics. For example, Darkrai is very fast and strong but has mediocre defensive ability. Most Pokémon have their own evolutions, which are different Pokémon that they can evolve into once certain requirements have been met, making themselves grow into a more mature and powerful shape.
For example, a Ralts can evolve into Kirlia, and Kirlia can evolve into Gardevoir at level 30, or give a Dawn Stone to a male Kirlia to evolve it to Gallade. One certain Pokémon, Eevee, can evolve into as many as eight different ways. A Double Battle in the Generation VI Pokémon games The Pokémon fandom, often referred to within the community simply as "the fandom", is a term that refers collectively to fans of the Pokémon franchise. The fandom is as vast and diverse as the series itself, engaging with the Pokémon series in a number of unique and creative ways, with numerous fan communities devoted to various aspects of the... Since the early days of the Pokémon fandom, hundreds of fan sites and organizations have formed centering around all corners of the Pokémon franchise.
Within these communities, certain fans have become quite well known for their contributions and impact on the fandom. Additionally, a number of fans have won Guinness World Records awards. A wide range of official and unofficial tournaments have been held where players compete in Pokémon battles under specific rules, often involving a tournament bracket where there will ultimately be a single winner. Various battle simulators are used by competitive fans to practice and compete against other players in simulated Pokémon battles. Many fans engage in a variety of self-imposed limitations, rules, or challenges, which sometimes involves playing the Pokémon games in unique and unintended ways. Some of these challenges include:
Pokémon (Japanese: ポケットモンスター Pocket Monsters, ポケモン Pokémon for short), sometimes shortened to PKMN, is an overarching media franchise owned by Nintendo, Creatures, Inc., and Game Freak. First appearing in 1996 with the release of its first entries on the Game Boy,[2] the game series has since inspired an array of media, including an animated series, a card game, numerous manga,... The series focuses on the creatures known as Pokémon, as well as their inhabited world, full of legends, tales, and adventures. Several interpretations of the world explore different themes and elements. Most commonly, Pokémon coexist with humans and can be caught, trained, and used in battles and other activities. Trainers, along with their Pokémon, travel across diverse lands aiming to make their dreams become reality, and the bond — love and trust — between Trainers and their Pokémon is often cited as the...
The Pokémon franchise is notable in that it is the highest-grossing media franchise of all time. Much as happens with many other words and phrases borrowed from English, the Japanese name for the series, Pocket Monsters, became contracted into "Pokémon" during the development of the original games, likely as much... The initial romanization of Pokémon, "Pockémon", used by official Japanese media prior to the English localization was derived from the contraction of Pocket and Monsters, and can be seen explicitly in Island of the... The "Pokémon" name used today came about during the translation of the games for an English or international audience during 1997 and 1998, which was derived from the contraction of Pocket and Monsters. This was suggested by Alfred R. Kahn, at the time the CEO of 4Kids Entertainment, who believed "Pocket Monsters" sounded too similar to the names of other monster collection games.[4] Despite this, the fact that Pokémon is short for Pocket...
