Over 43 million adults in the United States have low literacy skills, with 54% of adults having a literacy proficiency below a 6th-grade level. No wonder we are in the state we’re in! ProLiteracy is working to better these statistics by providing funding, comprehensive training, professional learning, accessible research, and New Readers Press digital and print resources to unleash the power of literacy to transform lives. Due January 5th, their Literacy Opportunity Fund helps US-based nonprofit organizations do their work in transforming lives through adult literacy. Funding can be used for a wide range of reasons, such as general operating expenses, salaries or teacher stipends, supplies or equipment, space rental, and more.
Grant funds can also be used to fund adult literacy projects or develop new programming. There’s an application portal to access but the application is pretty straightforward.
