Research Fi
Research.fi gathers and shares information about research and researchers in Finland. The National Research Information Hub (Research.fi) gathers and shares information on scientific research carried out in Finland in an easily accessible way and in common format. All information on researchers, publications, research data, research projects, and research infrastructures are made available in one place. Research.fi lessens the administrative and reporting needs for researchers and research organisations as research information is shared and reused. It enables the flow of information between research organizations, funders, and other research actors. Up-to-date information on research can be used by multiple actors, e.g.
on science policy making, reporting, benchmarking and visualisations. The Research.fi portal has easy-to-use interface which doesn't require any special skills. Advanced users or organisations have the option to use REST API layer to fetch data from the portal. Anyone can access, share and download data. Anyone can access, share and download data. The National Research Information Hub, maintained by CSC – IT Center for Science, collects metadata on, for example, publications, research data, research infrastructures, and projects.
The national portal Research.fi makes the information visible and open to the public. Research.fi also includes science and research news and funding calls. With the Researcher's Profile Tool, researchers can compile a public profile in the Research.fi-service from information in their ORCID profile and home organisation(s). In the tool, you can preview the information before it is published and select only the information that you want to include in your profile. The tool is available in Finnish, Swedish and English. All data in the researcher’s profile is retrieved automatically from other sources. These sources include ORCID, Aalto current research information system, ACRIS (e.g. education, affiliation, merits), or other research information sources included in Research.fi (e.g. publications, research data, projects). Any mistakes in the information can only be edited in the source systems, not within the tool itself. The researcher will be able to show their whole expertise and affiliations on their profile regardless of organisational boundaries.
This ensures that the skills of the researchers and their contact details are up to date and easily accessible to decision-makers, research funders, research organisations, media, and companies looking for experts. If you have questions about the service or ORCID, please contact the Open Science and ACRIS team at acris@aalto.fi for more information. The Research.fi service, maintained by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland is to provide Researcher Information service on the portal enabling quick access to information on researchers working in Finland. This will make it easier for users to find subject experts/researchers from different fields from all Finnish research organizations in one search. Under this service, the researchers can create a public profile detailing their skills and up to date contact details which will be easily accessible to decision-makers, research funders, research organizations, media and companies looking... The service requires the researcher to have an ORCID and be identified with ORCIDs.

This should be replicated by other countries as well. In ideal situation, all such national level ‘researcher information services’ should be integrated for the benefit of users and for the good of science and the optimal utilisation of resources.
By creating a personal researcher identifier, the researcher enhances the discoverability of his/her publications and his/her own visibility, and makes it easier to follow the references received. The identifier should be used in papers, peer review, websites and blogs, email signature, and CV, for example. This ensures visibility in databases and networking in the scientific community. The identification of the researcher also improves the evaluation and statistics of research activities based on scientific publications.
