The EdChoice Scholarship Program provides scholarships to students who attend or would attend public schools designated by the Ohio Department of Education as low-performing. Families use scholarships at the participating private school of their choice. Scholarships are renewable through high school graduation. The Ohio Department of Education releases the list of eligible public schools every year. The current list of EdChoice Designated schools is available here. Your child is eligible to apply for an EdChoice Scholarship if one of the bullet points below is true:

With the enactment of Ohio House Bill 33 on July 4, 2023, the EdChoice Scholarship Program has been expanded to include all K-12 students in Ohio. This broad eligibility makes it possible for both currently enrolled children and new students to consider Catholic School education as a viable option. At its core, EdChoice champions the principle that parents are the foremost educators of their children, advocating for the freedom to select the most suitable educational pathway. The program facilitates this choice by ensuring that private education, tailored to individual needs and aspirations, is accessible to every child. The EdChoice Scholarship offers two types of support: Traditional and Expansion, designed to accommodate a diverse range of family situations and educational preferences.
The scholarship contributes towards, and in certain circumstances, fully covers Catholic school tuition. The specific amount awarded through EdChoice is determined by the family’s gross adjusted income for 2023 and their size, ensuring a tailored approach to financial assistance. Scholarships can reach up to $6,166 annually for students in grades K-8, and up to $8,408 for those in grades 9-12, making a significant impact on the affordability of quality Catholic education. School choice has been around for nearly 150 years. Vermont’s town-tuitioning program has served families since 1869. In 1991, Wisconsin became the first state to create a modern school voucher program. In 1991, Minnesota became the first state to create a law allowing charter schools. In America’s system of residentially assigned district schooling, those who have the financial means exercise school choice by purchasing homes in districts that have high-performing schools. School choice programs break the link between housing and access to a quality education with the goal of expanding educational opportunity to all children, especially the most disadvantaged.
