My name is Ifeoma Veronica Nwabufo. I enjoy writing short stories, talking on events and playing table tennis. Learning is a lifestyle for me. My curious nature makes me learn from books, videos and people. You’d often find me interacting with people as I try to relearn, unlearn and learn. I am currently a PhD student at the Hertie Institute for AI in Brain Health in Tübingen, Germany.

I am also a scholar at the International Max Planck Research School for Intelligent Systems (IMPRS-IS). I am exploring self-supervised methods for understanding medical images. Before that, I was a Research Fellow at the same institute funded by the Cluster of Excellence - Machine Learning for New Perspectives in Science, University of Tübingen. My project was on the visualization of medical images. Specifically, I am using the t-SimCNE method. I have also written a blog on this method which you might want to see.

I was a student in the African Masters of Machine Intelligence (AMMI) programme where I studied for an Msc in Machine Intelligence sponsored by Facebook and Google. I also did an MSc in Mathematical Sciences at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in 2020 where I got exposed to the use of computational tools for analysis. I researched on computational learning theory for my MSc thesis and was supervised by Prof. Rehana Patel. Specifically, my MSc project was on “A Combinatorial Characterisation of PAC-Learnability” where I explored a type of learning framework called Probably Approximately Correct Learning. My undergraduate studies was at Kaduna State University (KASU), where I researched on “The Transmission Dynamics of Lassa Fever with Control” under the supervision of Dr.

Patrick Noah Okolo. My research interests include but not limited to: Project: Segmentation and Social Network Analysis● Researching on segmentation and social network analysis.● The exploration of techniques that would give improved results from clustering experiments.● Identification of influencers in a network. Created dashboards and reports on Tableau This project involved the prediction of COVID-19 given DNA sequence embeddings. I explored several models including logistic regression, kernel SVM and kernel linear regression but kernel linear regression gave the best score of 93% on Kaggle’s private leaderboard.

|| || Github || “I want to see more women in STEM careers, especially in the tech space” – Ifeoma Veronica Nwabufo. Ifeoma is a Grassroots Development Champion passionate about technology. She is skilled at Data Visualisation, Data Analysis, Data Science, Machine Learning, Deep Learning. She is a graduate of Mathematics from Kaduna State University, Kaduna. She is currently undergoing a Master’s degree program in Data Science at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Senegal.

She also likes writing and teaching. Having attested to the career prospects in technology and observed the gap in women engagement in STEM careers, Ifeoma decided to do something about it. To this end, Ifeoma organized the She STEM project to sensitize young girls that STEM careers are not for boys alone. She launched the Gender Equality And Women’s Empowerment/Women & Girls in STEM program, which conveys a STEM career’s lucrative prospects and fulfilling career prospects. Most importantly, she encourages more young girls to pursue a career in STEM.
