It was consolidated in 1972 with Tampere, and at the same time Tampere got new districts: Kämmenniemi, Polso, Terälahti and Velaatta.

Teisko's neighboring municipalities were Kangasala, Kuru, Orivesi, Ruovesi, Aitolahti and Ylöjärvi. The most significant valley is the canyon formed by Kaitavesi, Paarlahti and Peräjärvi, which stretches almost 15 kilometers east of Lake Näsijärvi. In the northeast corner of the former municipality, the terrain rises to almost 200 meters above sea level and many of the hill peaks cross it. The largest of Teisko's numerous lakes is Lake Velaatta, which flows into Lake Näsijärvi's Terälahti.
