Volunteers are our most valuable resource. Book’em has a volunteer base of 300+ community members who serve as reading role models in local elementary schools and early learning centers, prepare donated books for distribution and fulfill book requests, help out... Research shows that reading aloud to children greatly increases their ability to learn to read and build essential literacy skills. If you have questions, please email [email protected]. Book’em depends on small groups of volunteers to help us prepare books for distribution.
This usually involves sorting through donated books, cleaning them, stamping or labeling them, counting them and boxing or shelving them. Some of the work is physical as books in boxes and bins tend to be heavy. Occasionally, we have other group needs such as data entry, cleaning and organizing, packing up books, delivering boxes of books, etc. Given our small staff, space constraints, and bandwidth, we have developed some guidelines for volunteer groups, so that they meet our needs, and we can provide your group with a meaningful, rewarding, and fun... Location: Our offices are located at 161 Rains Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203. We are inside the Nashville PBS Building, next to Fall-Hamilton Elementary School. Please enter through the gate on Rains Ave. For visiting and volunteering, park at the front entrance by the flagpoles. For book pickups and dropoffs, please pull around to the Prop Area Entrance at the back of the building. Through our main programs - Books for Nashville's Kids (BFNK), Reading is Fundamental (RIF), and our Book Bus – we strive to cultivate a love of reading in Nashville's underserved youth through book ownership...
Book Ownership: Simply put - we take in books (the majority come in through donations), sort and clean them up, and give these books to schools and other organizations serving kids in Davidson County. Books are also distributed through the RIF program each time a volunteer visits his or her classroom. Reading Role Models - RIF & Ready for Reading (R4R): Trained volunteers are matched with classrooms in local elementary and preschools, where they have the opportunity to read aloud to their assigned classroom and... Book'em will also be closed during the month of January to conduct our annual inventory audit, so please plan ahead by submitting book requests and scheduling donations for book drives now. Every $2.50 provides a book to a child in need. Donate through our website, via Venmo (@bookemkidsnash), or by mailing a check to Book'em, 161 Rains Ave. Nashville, TN 37203. Schedule an appointment to drop off new, like-new, or very gently used books in great condition for youth ages 0-18, or send books directly to Book'em through our Amazon wish list.
