Between April 1st - April 3rd students will vote on a referendum on whether or not UCD Students’ Union should rejoin the Union of Students in Ireland (USI). What does this mean? Between April 1st - April 3rd, as well as voting in the Executive Elections for their Sabbatical Officers and College Officers, students will also be voting on a referendum on whether or not UCD... This referendum has been called as a result of the collection of signatures equating to 5% of the student population in UCD, which is roughly 1,700 signatures. The signatures were collected by representatives of USI across campus over the course of two weeks at the end of February/beginning of March. The University Observer reported on Monday 10th March that a referendum had been called and would be held in conjunction with the Executive Elections in early April.

The referendum seeks to add the following statement to Article 2 of the UCDSU Constitution: "To represent the members of the Students’ Union nationally, through its membership of the Union of Students in Ireland (Aontas na Mac Léinn in Éirinn)."
