what s new on streaming our culture s picks for the best streaming

It’s a brand new month and like clockwork, a new slate of movies and shows has landed on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and just about every major streaming platform. Somehow, December is already here, which means the holiday season is around the corner and there’s finally going to be some free time to catch up on good entertainment. But given how spoiled we are for choices these days and since scrolling endlessly for binge-worthy content is a waste of a good evening, we decided to take matters into our own hands to... So, here are our picks for the best new TV series and films worth streaming on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and more in December 2025. Let’s start with a big (and obvious) one. Prime Video’s breakout video-game adaptation is back with a brand-new season that’s set deeper in the post-apocalyptic wasteland.

And this time, we’re heading to irradicated Vegas, baby! Based on Bethesda’s video-game series, Season 1 gave us all the things we had hoped for from a Fallout TV adaptation, including a grounded and surprisingly heartfelt story, memorable characters and the signature dark... Now, Season 2 is pushing the envelope further, taking the story into the Mojave Wasteland and bringing us to the Strip, the iconic location from 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas. Fallout Season 2 will pick up after the explosive Season 1 finale, with Lucy searching for her father while The Ghoul begins his own hunt for the family he believes may have survived the... The biggest bombshell in Season 2 is the proper debut of Robert Edwin House, now played by Justin Theroux. As fans of Fallout: New Vegas will know, House is the enigmatic ruler of the Strip, a pre-war tech titan whose influence shaped the world before and after the bombs fell.

Season 2 also sees two major cast additions as Kumail Nanjiani joins the ensemble and Macaulay Culkin is set to appear in a recurring role as a “crazy genius” character. December also sees the return of Daniel Craig’s master detective Benoit Blanc on his “most personal journey yet” as he’s pulled into a baffling new case. The third film in the Knives Out series, Netflix’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, acts as a standalone sequel to the first and once again puts Rian Johnson back in the... After the not-so-successful second film, which tried to do and be many things at once, Wake Up Dead Man is returning to the series’ whodunit roots, taking Craig’s Benoit Blanc on a trail of... Per the official synopsis, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery takes “Blanc to a small hamlet in leafy upstate New York, where eager young priest Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor) has been sent... A charismatic firebrand, Wicks tends to a flock that includes Martha Delacroix (Glenn Close), Samson Holt (Thomas Haden Church), Vera Draven (Kerry Washington), Cy Draven (Daryl McCormack), Nat Sharp (Jeremy Renner), Lee Ross (Andrew...

A typical edition of The Queue starts with me going in-depth on a single topic — whether it’s all the celebrity voices in Ken Burns’ new docuseries, the best deals in sports streaming, or... Once a month, however, I’ll be sending you an all-recommendations edition of the newsletter, because the struggle of deciding what to watch is eternal.

From “F1” to “Mission: Impossible” and beyond December is always a great time to catch up on movies, and this month sees a plethora of exciting films from earlier this year (and bona fide new releases) hitting Netflix, Paramount+, Prime Video,... We’ve put together a curated list of the best of the best, from Brad Pitt’s Oscar-contending racing drama to Tom Cruise’s possibly final “Mission: Impossible movie to a delightful holiday rom-com starring Michelle Pfeiffer. Check out our picks for the best new movies streaming right now below. Finally, our long international nightmare is over. 2022 saw the release of “Troll,” energetically directed by Norwegian powerhouse Roar Uthaug and written by Espen Aukan.

It combined European mythology with “Godzilla”-style kaiju dynamics and remains one of the most entertaining movies Netflix has ever released. And now, it’s finally time for a sequel, with Uthaug and Aukan back for more. Based on the marketing materials, we can expect not one giant troll but two (one seems to be a MechaGodzilla-style robot), with most of the cast from the first film returning (among them: Ine... Falck-Jørgensen and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen). Sadly, Billy Campbell, who shared a name with his character from “The Rocketeer,” is not back. Maybe he’ll show up for “Troll 3.” Here’s hoping.

In terms of Christmastime documentaries, this sounds pretty great. “The Merchants of Joy” follows the five families of the New York City Christmas tree market. According to the official synopsis, this new documentary “follows these Christmas die-hards as they source, sell, and safeguard a family tradition at risk. It’s a warm, grounded portrait of pride, grit, and the joy they bring—one tree, one customer, one season at a time.” Sounds like an insightful documentary that will illuminate, with humor and wit, a... Holly jolly indeed. Tis the season – to sit at home and stream some great films and TV series while its cold outside.

Here's the best new stuff to see The festive season is finally upon us, which for many means stoking up the central heating, loading a plate with mince pies and settling down for an evening (or perhaps even a full day)... Thankfully, there’s a whole mass of new TV shows and movies coming to streaming services in December, so you won’t have to go back to watching Star Wars for the millionth time. All of the movies and TV shows below are available to stream on streaming services, ranging from tear-jerking family dramas to earth-shattering Korean disaster flicks. And we can’t forget the long-awaited second season of Fallout, arguably the best video game to TV adaptation of all time (sorry, Last of Us, you really let us down with your second series). If you’re looking for something brilliant to watch this month, chances are you’ll find it right here.

A film star and his manager take an impromptu road trip through Europe, reflecting on their lives along the way. Noah Baumbach’s Netflix original comedy-drama makes the unlikely pairing of George Clooney and Adam Sandler in a heartfelt exploration of ageing, regret and the dying concept of the Hollywood screen legend. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, though this list of new TV shows and movies to stream this weekend includes very few Christmas movies. I’ll have a separate guide for the best holiday-themed fare up soon. It’s about that time of year, when the lights go up and holly, jolly Christmas tunes come on the radio. It’s another big weekend for streaming content, though not as big as last weekend and the much-anticipated release of Stranger Things 5.

In entertainment news, we’ve just learned that Netflix is purchasing Warner Bros. and will devour HBO Max in the $82.7 billion deal. It’s the end of an era. My only prediction is grim: We will never get The Sopranos or Deadwood or The Wire or even The Pitt quality series from HBO ever again. They will all move toward Netflix’s dread algorithm, toward its lower-quality cinematography. It’s also a death knell for the movie theater business, not to mention the high caliber films Warner Bros.

puts out — you can kiss those goodbye. Kiss your wallet goodbye, also, as this kind of acquisition leads to major price-hikes for subscribers. Competition is good. Massive media mergers? Not so much. Don’t get me wrong.

Netflix has made many perfectly fine TV shows and movies, but those are generally the exception to the rule. HBO has many of the greatest TV shows ever made. All good things come to an end. I just wish, perhaps selfishly, that I didn’t have to witness so many in my lifetime. In any case, on a brighter note, we have shows and movies to discuss. As always, I’ve searched high and low for all the best new shows and movies for you to stream on the various streaming services we all subscribe to these days.

From Brad Pitt’s “F1” to Daniel Craig’s third “Knives Out” movie and a brand new Taylor Swift concert film, streaming platforms are rolling out big offerings this December just in time for the holidays. Pitt’s racing movie is the month’s biggest blockbuster offering, as “F1” makes its streaming debut on Apple TV after becoming the Oscar winner’s top grosser at the worldwide box office. Netflix continues its Oscar season rollout this month, not only with “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” but also with the George Clooney and Adam Sandler-led “Jay Kelly.” Other well-reviewed films from... Check out a rundown below of the biggest new movies on streaming platforms this month. Brad Pitt’s racing blockbuster “F1” arrives on Apple TV this month after grossing $631 million at the worldwide this summer to become the biggest box office hit of the actor’s career (unadjusted for inflation). The movie, directed by “Top Gun: Maverick” helmer Joseph Kosinski, follows Pitt’s character as he emerges from retirement to coach a rookie driver and save a failing F1 team.

Damson Idris, Kerry Condon and Tobias Menzies co-star in the film, while real-life Formula One champ Lewis Hamilton counts himself among the producers. Tom Cruise’s alleged last “Mission: Impossible” movie, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” is now streaming on Paramount+ after grossing $598 million at the worldwide box office this summer. Starring Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg and more, “The Final Reckoning” picks up in the wake of “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning,” as Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his globetrotting team of agents continue their... Set in a universe alive with “metahumans,” the film explores Kal-El’s efforts to protect humanity while navigating the growing tension between hope and fear, symbolized by his ideological clash with Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult),...

David Corenswet delivers a standout performance as a grounded and vulnerable Superman, balancing power with purpose. His chemistry with Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane adds heart and levity to the story, while Gunn’s world-building introduces memorable supporting characters like Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion) and Kendra Saunders (Isabela Merced), teasing a larger... Through its mix of humor, spectacle, and sincerity, Superman, by James Gunn, celebrates the enduring optimism of one of pop culture’s most beloved icons. It’s an earnest, big-hearted superhero adventure that reaffirms why the Man of Tomorrow still matters in today’s cynical world. Love movies? Live for TV?
