Bansomdej Chaopraya Rajabhat University, as it is now known, was originally established in 1896, in accordance with the Royal wishes of King Rama the Fifth to set up a secondary school based on the... At first it was formally called “King’s college”and located at Somdej Chaopraya Borommaha Srisuriyawongse (Chaung Bannag)’s residence The maening of the word residence in Thai is “Ban” and that led to the name “Bansomdej Chaopraya” later. Over the following century the University has significantly developed. In 1995 we were highly honoured to receive a Rayal Award as Thailand’s most outstanding Institute under the Ministry of Education’s higher education category. At this time His Majesty King Bhummibol Adulydej bestowed the name “Institute of Rajabhat”.

The Rajabhat Institute later became Rajabhat University following the Ralyal Command of June 14, 2004.This gave as a current title Bansomdej Chaopraya Rajabhat University. The University officially has all the honours of other State universities to provide education from kindergarten up to doctoral degree level. In BSRU Art and Cultural Centre Meeting Hall was built during the era of King Rama VI. It is a modern 2-storey meeting hall designed by Western architects. It has 1000 traditional style seats. It was awarded the Excellent Architecture Conservation from The Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage in 2012 and accepted the award from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Presently, this hall is preserved as the university’s cultural heritage. The Art and Cultural Centre Meeting Hall is currently preserved as the university’s cultural heritage.
