Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University, as it is now known, was initially established in 1896, following the Royal wishes of King Rama the Fifth to set up a secondary school based on the typical public school... It was formally called "King's college" and located at Somdej Chaopraya Borommaha Srisuriyawongse (Chaung Bannag) 's residence. The meaning of the word residence in Thai is "Ban," which led to the name "Bansomdej Chaopraya" later. Over the following century, the University has significantly developed. In 1995 we were highly honored to receive a Royal Award as Thailand's most outstanding Institute under the Ministry of Education's higher education category. At this time, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej bestowed the name "Institute of Rajabhat." The Rajabhat Institute later became Rajabhat University, following the Royal Command of June 14, 2004.
