Aontas This Afternoon We Were Delighted To Welcome Our Facebook
We advocate and lobby for quality education for all adults, and raise awareness of the impact of adult learning on people’s lives and on society A world where the pursuit of learning for all adults is valued, equal, and strengthens communities Be part of this landmark event bringing together communities, learners, educators, policymakers, and key stakeholders from Ireland, the UK, and across Europe. To advocate for empowering adult learning that drives social equality, justice, and collective action across the island of Ireland We recently held our 55th AGM. The theme for this year’s AGM was ‘Connecting Communities’ and featured some thought-provoking discussions with learners and those who work within the sector.
Yesterday, the AONTAS team and our Board of Directors met up to chat and share updates about what's been happening recently with our work, and in the adult and community education sector. This was a chance for the Board to learn more about our work and what we are all up to at the moment at AONTAS! It also helped us as a team to better understand the Board's important role in ensuring good policies and practices for the organisation. We had a wonderful afternoon and are so grateful to all the members of the Board for your commitment to adult and community education. We were so delighted to welcome Conor and Karyn from the AONTAS, the National Adult Learning Organisation team last Monday Monday to offer a Learner Voice workshop to adult learners in Kilkenny and Carlow... 📚 What a super workshop - thank you 🙏
Since 2020, we've been working with staff and learners in Education and Training Boards (ETBs) across Ireland to develop Learner Voice as a process that is embedded in Further Education and Training (FET). Conor and Karyn from the AONTAS team headed to Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board (KCETB) on Monday to offer a Learner Voice workshop to adult learners in Kilkenny and Carlow Education and... Learners took part in this training to support them to become Learner Champions in KCETB. The learners will share their stories and experiences in different settings in order to encourage others to take up adult education classes in the area. "It became clear that when a community comes together to address challenges, they can collaborate meaningfully to find practical solutions," says Lorraine O'Connor, our Community Education Officer. In a blog post on her visit to Inishowen Development Partnership (IDP) earlier this year, Lorraine reflected on the vital work being done by this Donegal-based community-led partnership. From promoting sustainability to fostering integration, IDP is a powerful force transforming the local community. Yesterday AONTAS Community Education Officer, Lorraine O'Connor, attended an event at Doras BUÍ that focused on supporting community members with registering to vote and learning about the upcoming referendum. Having recently attended a voter education training with AONTAS, Dublin Adult Learning Centre, and Maynooth University, Doras BUÍ was able to put into practice their learning. During yesterday's event, they provided information to attendees on registration and different methods of voting in a way that was accessible to attendees with varying election knowledge and levels of literacy. Thank you to Adele O‘Connor and everyone else at Doras BUÍ for inviting us to come along and witness effective ways to drive civic engagement and voter participation within community education. #CommunityEducation We are delighted to have kicked off our first SOLAS Brunch and Learn Partner Series event this morning with AONTAS, the National Adult Learning Organisation and two STAR Awards groups.
A big thank you to the AONTAS team for sharing the powerful work they do in advocating for the learner voice and supporting groups trough their learner voice training. Thanks also to the two amazing STAR Awards groups who shared their valuable experiences of FET. Racheal Ryan, AONTAS Head of Communications, chaired a discussion with Simon Murray, a participant on the Advanced Manufacturing Technician Traineeship run by Kildare and Wicklow ETB , Kathleen Ryan, Programme Leader of the traineeship,... It was a fantastic opportunity for the SOLAS team to hear directly from learners about their experiences. We look forward to meeting with other organisations so they can share with us the important work that they are doing to support Further Education and Training.
