LUT is an international science university that conducts strong academic research and provides higher education based on that research. LAB is a higher education institution that specialises in innovation, business and industries. It provides education driven by the needs of the working world and carries out applied research, development and innovation activities and artistic activities. LUT's research focuses on planetary resources, energy transition, digital revolution, and business and society. LAB's education, research, development and innovation specialise in the intangible value creation, multipurpose materials, and human well-being. LUT and LAB also collaborate in education and projects in these focus areas.

The growth strategy of LUT Universities focuses on international student recruitment, education export, new continuing education solutions and paths, and impacting industries. The education community has 16 500 students and employs 1 800 experts in total. We share campuses in Lahti and Lappeenranta and university services and information systems that support our core activities. The University Services support core functions and achievement of strategic goals of the LUT and LAB.The customers of the support services include the staff members, students and other stakeholders. The support services are organized in six units: LUT University and the LAB University of Applied Sciences compose the high-level, curious and dynamic university group LUT Universities.

Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT (Finnish: Lappeenrannan-Lahden teknillinen yliopisto LUT), better known by the abbreviation LUT University (Finnish: LUT-yliopisto) is a Finnish public research university which was established in 1969.

The university's Lappeenranta campus is situated on the shore of lake Saimaa – the 4th largest lake in Europe. LUT University's second campus is in the Finnish city of Lahti. The university also has research units in the Finnish cities of Mikkeli and Kouvola, as well as a regional office in Brussels, Belgium. LUT University is split into two schools of engineering and technology, a school of business and a department of social sciences. The schools focus on renewable and sustainable technologies such as clean water and air, renewable energy, circular economy and the impact of technology on society. There are 1,380 staff members and 7,770 students in the university.

Over 5,000 students reside in the Lappeenranta campus area, and the Lahti campus hosts around 1,000 students. Our mission is to carry out leading edge, high-quality, and internationally recognized scientific research in the field of design, modelling, simulation and control of mechatronic systems. Energy efficiency and usability of mechatronic systems are also in the groups agenda. The first core research area of the laboratory has been the modelling and simulation of mobile working machines. Within this context the spearhead topics have been the development of modelling and simulation methods for numerically stiff systems such as fluid power and electric transmission systems. The real-time simulation models have been used in development of control, durability and usability of such machines. The laboratory also has developed groundbreaking ergonomic systems for remote operation of mobile working machines. These systems are based on novel methods utilizing simulation, AI and bio-signal based monitoring of human operators. The laboratory has two research environments, namely the simulation laboratory and heavy laboratory for experiments.
